Candidates who demonstrate success leading technical teams, modernizing infrastructure, and building cross-functional engineering capabilities will be well positioned to secure an interview.

Must Haves
  • 8-10+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, unified communications, voice engineering, or closely related infrastructure disciplines.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a formal management, technical leadership, supervisory, or senior team lead capacity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Cisco Unified Communications environments, including CUCM, SIP, CUBE, Webex, voice gateways, and enterprise VoIP technologies.
  • Strong enterprise networking knowledge spanning switching, routing, edge/access infrastructure, hardware provisioning, VLANs, QoS, and wireless networking.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams through organizational change, technology modernization, team integration, or operating model transformation.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers while building cross-training and professional growth plans.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, strategic thinking, and collaborative leadership skills.

What the Client Needs You to Do

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted partner to senior network leadership while helping unify previously distinct voice and network operations functions into a cohesive engineering organization. You will provide technical direction during a modern unified communications transition, strengthen operational processes, and develop a team capable of supporting both communications and network infrastructure.

Key outcomes include:
  • Build a collaborative, cross-functional engineering team with broader capabilities across voice and networking.
  • Establish scalable operating procedures, escalation models, performance measures, and service standards.
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership for the continued modernization of communications and edge network infrastructure.
  • Develop team members through mentoring, knowledge transfer, and targeted cross-skilling.
  • Ensure highly available, reliable services across a large, distributed, multi-location environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Director of Network Services to define technology roadmaps, operational priorities, engineering standards, and long-term infrastructure strategy.
  • Lead the integration of voice and network operations personnel into a unified engineering organization focused on collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop engineers across unified communications and networking disciplines.
  • Create professional development plans that expand voice engineering expertise into modern networking while strengthening network engineers' understanding of SIP and VoIP architectures.
  • Provide technical oversight for a large-scale enterprise communications environment supporting thousands of endpoints, emergency communications systems, and high-volume call center operations.
  • Direct the engineering, maintenance, and lifecycle planning of Cisco unified communications technologies, including CUCM, Unity, CUBE, collaboration services, endpoints, and analog connectivity.
  • Oversee SIP trunking, carrier relationships, call-routing architectures, and related voice connectivity services.
  • Guide support for communications applications and integrations, including contact center, call recording, emergency communications, and E911-related platforms.
  • Ensure communications services integrate effectively with enterprise identity, authentication, and security technologies.
  • Provide leadership for enterprise edge and access networking across a large distributed infrastructure environment.
  • Oversee switching, wireless infrastructure, hardware lifecycle planning, provisioning standards, and connectivity strategies.
  • Partner with architecture and engineering stakeholders to optimize routing, VLAN design, QoS, voice and video performance, and network security segmentation.
  • Establish and refine standard operating procedures, incident response practices, escalation paths, and service performance metrics.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reliability, operational maturity, technical documentation, and customer experience.

Additional Information

This role is ideal for a technically credible leader who is comfortable operating as both a strategic manager and a hands-on engineering resource. The environment includes a complex, distributed infrastructure supporting multiple locations, large-scale communications services, enterprise switching, and extensive wireless deployments.

Preferred experience includes work within higher education or another large, complex enterprise environment; familiarity with multi-campus network architectures; and knowledge of emergency communications compliance requirements. Experience with Extreme Networks technologies, cloud-based network management platforms, fabric architectures, Aruba enterprise wireless, contact center platforms, public safety communications, or related administrative and application integrations is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate is an authentic mentor and change leader who can bring teams together, establish a shared technical vision, and balance immediate operational needs with long-term modernization goals.

W2 employees of Overture Partners who work 30 or more hours per week are eligible for the following benefits: medical (choice of 3 plans), 401(k) starting on day one, a variety of voluntary benefits including life and disability insurance, and sick time if required by law in the worked-in state/locality.
