The Opportunity

Join a team responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining the enterprise network infrastructure that enables mission-critical operations across a global technology environment. As a Network Infrastructure Specialist, you will support the planning, deployment, operation, and modernization of highly available network solutions that connect users, applications, and systems around the world.

This requisition supports multiple experience levels—from technicians and administrators responsible for day-to-day network operations to engineers and architects designing enterprise routing, switching, firewall, wireless, and cloud networking solutions. Successful candidates will collaborate across infrastructure, cybersecurity, systems engineering, and operations teams to deliver secure, resilient, and scalable network services supporting domestic and international missions.

Responsibilities

Depending on experience and level, responsibilities may include:

  • Install, configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, and related technologies.

  • Support the design, implementation, and optimization of local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), wireless networks, and software-defined networking solutions.

  • Configure and maintain network routing, switching, VPN connectivity, network segmentation, quality of service (QoS), and high-availability solutions.

  • Deploy, administer, and optimize enterprise firewall technologies, intrusion prevention systems, and network security controls.

  • Monitor network performance, availability, capacity, and reliability while identifying and resolving connectivity issues.

  • Perform network upgrades, technology refreshes, equipment installations, firmware updates, and lifecycle replacement activities.

  • Develop and maintain network diagrams, configuration documentation, technical standards, and operational procedures.

  • Conduct network performance analysis, capacity planning, and trend analysis to improve enterprise reliability and scalability.

  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement secure network architectures, Zero Trust principles, access controls, and compliance requirements.

  • Support cloud networking, hybrid infrastructure, remote connectivity, and enterprise modernization initiatives.

  • Develop automation solutions to streamline network provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, and operational support.

  • Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, disaster recovery planning, and continuity of operations activities.

  • Evaluate emerging networking technologies and recommend solutions that improve performance, resiliency, and operational efficiency.

  • Senior-level professionals may develop enterprise network architecture, establish engineering standards, lead modernization initiatives, mentor technical staff, and provide strategic guidance across multiple programs.

Required Qualifications

Qualifications vary based on position level.

  • High School diploma with relevant experience or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • Active Secret Clearance

  • Experience supporting enterprise network administration, engineering, implementation, or operations.

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, network protocols, and enterprise connectivity principles.

  • Experience installing, configuring, maintaining, or troubleshooting enterprise networking equipment.

  • Familiarity with network monitoring, performance analysis, troubleshooting methodologies, and technical documentation.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required Government security clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise networking platforms including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, or similar technologies.

  • Experience configuring routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, multicast, and VPN technologies.

  • Experience with enterprise firewall administration, network segmentation, IDS/IPS, secure remote access, and Zero Trust networking.

  • Experience supporting LAN, WAN, wireless, SD-WAN, software-defined networking (SDN), and cloud networking environments.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, AWS, hybrid cloud networking, and virtual networking technologies.

  • Experience with network automation using Python, Ansible, REST APIs, PowerShell, or Infrastructure as Code methodologies.

  • Experience using enterprise network monitoring and management platforms such as SolarWinds, Cisco DNA Center, ThousandEyes, PRTG, or similar tools.

  • Experience supporting Federal Government or Department of State enterprise IT environments.

  • Knowledge of ITIL service management, change management, and configuration management practices.

  • Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIP, Palo Alto PCNSA/PCNSE, Fortinet NSE, CompTIA Network+, Security+, or ITIL Foundation.

Pay Range:

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
