Job DescriptionSenior Network Engineer - Greater Richmond VA RegionCalling on network engineers who like to
solve hard problems, not just monitor them. We're conducting a confidential search for a
Senior Network Engineer to join a growing Virginia-based digital infrastructure and connectivity provider. The company owns and operates its own fiber network and provides enterprise-grade connectivity, colocation, and network management services supporting businesses, schools, healthcare organizations, financial institutions, and other critical infrastructure customers.
We're looking for someone who has worked in a
large, complex production network environment and wants the opportunity to have greater ownership and influence over how solutions are designed and delivered.
This is a fast-paced, self-directed engineering role. You won't just inherit a ticket queue. You'll work across backbone infrastructure, customer connectivity, new site turnups, network expansions, and complex troubleshooting.
What You'll Own - Support and operate a large-scale production network, including backbone infrastructure and customer connectivity.
- Troubleshoot complex routing, transport, performance, and service issues.
- Support new site turnups, expansions, commissioning activity, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Work directly with customers and internal technical teams to develop solutions around specific customer requirements rather than a one-size-fits-all offering.
- Improve network reliability, operational processes, documentation, and service delivery.
- Take ownership of technical problems from diagnosis through resolution.
What We're Looking For - Senior-level, hands-on network engineering experience in a production environment.
- Background within a telecom, carrier, ISP, service provider, managed network, or large enterprise network environment.
- Experience supporting both network infrastructure and customer-facing connectivity.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, MPLS, and DNS.
- Experience with Cisco and/or Ciena infrastructure is highly preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to independently work through complex network issues.
- Collaborative and relationship-oriented, with the ability to work effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Comfortable taking initiative and operating with meaningful autonomy.
Why Consider It? This is an opportunity to take experience gained in a larger network environment and apply it somewhere your
technical judgment and ideas can directly influence the network. You'll join a close-knit, energetic team supporting local businesses, critical infrastructure, and innovative projects with visible real-world impact.
The company offers a flexible environment with
meaningful autonomy, strong internal support, minimal travel, and unlimited PTO. This search is strictly confidential. If you're interested in learning more, send me a message or a Word-formatted resume. I'm happy to start with a casual, confidential conversation.
