Qualifications:
This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to support NASA's Moon Base program. As the Safety and Mission Assurance (SM&A) Communications and Tracking Safety and Reliability Engineer (MB), you will provide technical support for exploration systems, ensuring safety requirements are consistently applied, verified, and maintained across the MB program. You will be responsible for assuring the communications and tracking MB design, hazards, proposed operations, and verifications comply with all applicable Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) requirements. These functions are performed in direct support of NASA JSC MBOffice.
Job Description:
Review and provide comments on Safety Data Packages (SDPs), hazard reports/analyses, integrated hazard reports, non-compliance reports and other safety data deliverables submitted to the Moon Base Safety Review Panel.
Provide technical expertise to SRR, PDRs, CDRs. TIMS and critical contingency EVA pre-failure analyses as specified for Moonbase programs/projects.
Provide SMA Communications and Tracking subsystem expertise by performing technical and requirements compliance assessments of development products and provide special risk assessment, as required.
Evaluate end-to-end link robustness across emerging MB communications architectures.
Ensure tracking and navigation systems meet safety-critical accuracy, redundancy, and fault-tolerance requirements.
Collaborate with system engineering, mission operations, and network providers to assess risks and verify mitigations.
Review test plans, verification reports, and requirements to ensure compliance with NASA safety, reliability, and standards.
Support anomaly resolution, root cause analysis, and corrective action development for communications and tracking failures.
Monitor Communications and Tracking hardware for signs of degraded performance or reliability concerns.
Review safety documentation including reliability predictions, hazard analyses, safety assessments, and verification matrices.
Qualifications
Required Education/Background:
Bachelor's in Mechanical, Aerospace, Safety Engineering, or related discipline
Basic knowledge and use of personal computers with typical business software
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory
Must be able to travel (minimal) and work shifts periodically
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
