POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Mission Operations Engineer to help design, build, and execute Axiom’s next generation human spaceflight operations. This role is responsible for developing mission operations concepts, tools, and training systems while also serving as a certified flight controller support real-time operations. Candidates will operate in a dynamic development environment, working across engineering, program, and external partners to define how missions are planned, trained, and executed for a commercial space station.  

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Mission Operations Development

  • Define and implement concepts of operations, procedures, tools, and console products

  • Develop integration products (interfaces, timelines, test plans, operational documentation)

  • Contribute to development of mission control systems, training environments, and operational infrastructure

Training & Certification

  • Develop and execute training plans and certification flows for flight controllers and astronauts

  • Support simulations, mission rehearsals, and readiness activities

  • Contribute to definition of flight rules, procedures, and readiness activities

Flight Operations Execution

  • Serve as a certified flight controller supporting real-time operations

  • Monitor spacecraft systems, respond to anomalies, and execute mission timelines

  • Document anomalies, lessons learned, and operations improvements

  • Perform additional job duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or other related Technical degree, 2+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Track record of delivering outcomes in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

  • Uses good judgement to problem-solve proactively, positively impacting hard challenges

  • Proven to deliver high quality results under tight deadlines

  • Demonstrate ability to progress and accomplish flight controller certification

  • Compensation will be commensurate with experience and demonstrated expertise

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment or shift work in a Mission Control Center

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation

  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position

  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time)

  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time)
