As a Mission Operations Engineer - Level 2 or Level 3 located in Gilbert, AZ, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

The Mission Operations Development group is looking for a Mission Operations Engineer to join a growing team. This position is for a full-time technical and will support multiple programs in creating on orbit operational scripts

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide mission operations support to NGSS Satellite programs.
  • Support script development effort based off of operational procedures
  • Testing on orbit operational products using simulators and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support the development and testing of: procedures, scripts, telemetry pages, and all other products
  • Make modifications to existing operations procedures to incorporate lessons learned from in-flight performance. Develop new procedures as required.
  • Support system development activities such as requirements management, architecture development, integration and test and formal program milestones.
  • Work with systems engineers to develop operational documentation for use during on-orbit checkout and commissioning of satellites.
  • Participate in mission readiness activities including mission rehearsals, mission timeline development, and post launch test development.
  • Participate in on orbit anomaly resolution efforts.
  • Provide status reporting through both the functional and program reporting branches.
  • Provide additional support to multiple programs in the same product line.
  • Maintain standards associated with the established Integrated/Developmental Operations functional group processes.
  • Support internal and external customer meetings through proficient verbal and documented (MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel) communications.
  • May require shift work and travel ~ 20% of the time for simulation/rehearsal and launch support.
  • Other duties as assigned

This position can be filled at either a Level 2 or Level 3.

Basic Qualifications for Level 2:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 2 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 0 years of professional experience.

  • Experience with at least one S/C Subsystem (ADCS/GNC, command and data handling, communications, power, Thermal, flight software, orbital planning and dynamics, etc.)
  • System engineering experience or significant classwork in system engineering or system design
  • Experience writing technical documents for internal or external customers
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills, including ability to make persuasive presentations to external customers at milestone reviews.
  • Experience with or writing of PERL script is a plus
  • Experience with LabView and Simics is a plus

  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills, including ability to make persuasive presentations to external customers at milestone reviews.
  • Experience with or writing of PERL script is a plus

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to work within a group of diversified individuals with varying backgrounds to achieve mission success. Support of readiness activities to include; Mission Readiness Tests (MRTs), Mission Rehearsals (MRs), Day In The Life (DITL) and daily operations testing.
  • Experience with spacecraft launch campaigns
  • Experience with satellite ground systems and simulators
  • Familiarity with training and certification programs for space system operators
  • Experience working on government systems and/or government process environment


Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
