Torch Technologies Inc., is seeking a
Mid-Level Software Engineer. In this position, the candidate will be part of a dynamic team responsible for integrating vendor-developed flight software into a proprietary 6-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) simulation environment to support independent verification and validation (IV&V) of flight software for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures program. This role focuses on the software integration layer connecting external vendor flight code to an in-house 6DOF simulation framework, ensuring accurate interface behavior, timing, data exchange, and functional compliance prior to and during test execution.
Job Responsibilities:- Integrating vendor-supplied flight software (typically delivered as source code, object code, or compiled libraries) into the team's 6DOF simulation environment, resolving interface, build, and compatibility issues.
- Analyzing MDA and vendor interface control documents (ICDs) and software requirements to ensure correct simulation integration and data flow.
- Debugging integration issues arising from differences in vendor coding practices, compilers, data structures, and timing assumptions versus the host simulation.
- Supporting IV&V test execution by configuring simulation scenarios, verifying flight software behavior against expected 6DOF trajectory and dynamics outputs, and documenting discrepancies.
- Working closely with simulation architects, systems engineers, and vendor points of contact to troubleshoot integration failures and validate fixes.
- Publishing integration status reports, test readiness documentation, and briefing materials summarizing analysis results.
Job Requirements:- US Citizenship.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5 years applicable software design engineering experience.
- Proficiency in C/C++ (required for integrating vendor flight software modules); working knowledge of Python and/or MATLAB for simulation tooling, test scripting, and data analysis.
- Experience with Linux-based development and simulation environments.
- Familiarity with software build systems, linking, and cross-compilation, as integrating third-party vendor code often involves resolving build and dependency issues.
- Knowledge of containerized development workflows.
- Working knowledge of 6DOF simulation concepts (rigid body dynamics, coordinate frames, guidance/navigation/control interfaces) preferred.
- Understanding of software IV&V processes and the distinction between developer testing and independent verification.
- Ability to interpret vendor and MDA software/interface requirements and assess integration compliance.
- Strong software debugging skills, particularly for diagnosing integration-layer defects (data marshaling, timing, interface mismatches) rather than purely algorithmic bugs.
- Ability to publish clear technical reports and briefings communicating integration status and analysis results; proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Basic understanding of aerospace/missile defense systems preferred.
- Work will be performed in a lab at Redstone Arsenal.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
