MICU Overview

The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at The George Washington University Hospital provides expert care for patients with complex, acute, and life-threatening medical conditions. Our team treats a wide range of diagnoses including sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, multi-organ dysfunction, and complex infectious diseases. The MICU is a dynamic environment where nurses gain expertise in ventilator management, advanced pharmacologic therapies, and multidisciplinary critical care collaboration.

  • Medical ICU (MICU) - 32 beds: Complex medical critical care patients
  • Surgical ICU (SICU) - 24 beds: Post-operative and surgical specialties
  • Trauma ICU (TICU) - 20 beds: High-acuity trauma patients
  • Neuro ICU - 20 beds: Neurological and neurosurgical care
  • Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) - 24 beds: Advanced cardiac and ECMO care
