Responsibilities MICU OverviewThe Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at The George Washington University Hospital provides expert care for patients with complex, acute, and life-threatening medical conditions. Our team treats a wide range of diagnoses including sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, multi-organ dysfunction, and complex infectious diseases. GW Hospital ICU Summary - Medical ICU (MICU) - 32 beds: Complex medical critical care patients
- Surgical ICU (SICU) - 24 beds: Post-operative and surgical specialties
- Trauma ICU (TICU) - 20 beds: High-acuity trauma patients
- Neuro ICU - 20 beds: Neurological and neurosurgical care
- Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) - 24 beds: Advanced cardiac and ECMO care

Responsibilities Patient Care: Provide evidence-based, compassionate care to critically ill medical patients.
Monitoring: Manage ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, and continuous infusions; respond to rapid patient changes.
Collaboration: Partner with intensivists, specialists, respiratory therapists, and care teams to deliver comprehensive care.
Critical Thinking: Manage complex cases including multi-organ failure, sepsis, and respiratory distress.
Advocacy: Support patients and families through critical illness with empathy and education.
Documentation: Ensure precise and timely charting of patient care.
Education: Guide families through disease processes and recovery expectations.
Quality Improvement: Contribute to improving ICU outcomes and best practices.
Qualifications - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or currently enrolled
- Washington, D.C. RN license or eligibility
- 2 years full-time (or 4 years part-time) critical care experience
- BLS and ACLS required
