Description & RequirementsThe opportunity:Smurfit Westrock is seeking an FP&A Manager who will be an integral member of the finance team supporting the Fernandina Beach Mill. This onsite role reports to the Mill Controller/Sr. FP&A Manager and will serve as a close-process leader for the Mill. The FP&A Manager will own the month-end close processes for Record to Report and Procure to Pay, ensuring timely, accurate, and well-controlled financial results. This role will functionally lead the Senior FP&A Analyst and FP&A Analyst during month-end close, coordinate key close deliverables, and partner with mill leadership to translate operational activity into clear financial insight. The FP&A Manager will also support forecasts, budgets, variance analysis, internal controls, and process improvements, while building readiness for broader finance leadership responsibilities.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:- Own and lead the monthly close process for Record to Report and Procure to Pay, including close calendar governance, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, reporting packages, variance review, and financial statement readiness.
- Functionally lead the Senior FP&A Analyst and FP&A Analyst during month-end close to ensure deadlines, quality standards, and control requirements are met.
- Own Procure to Pay financial oversight, including accruals, PO/invoice analytics, invoice review, vendor spend review, and related balance sheet impacts.
- Analyze monthly results and provide insight on plan, forecast, and prior period variances, including key drivers affecting mill performance.
- Prepare and review monthly reporting packages, close schedules, bridge analysis work, and supporting commentary used in monthly reporting packages and monthly results calls.
- Play key role in development of the annual operating plan, monthly forecasts, and full-year outlook updates.
- Support balance sheet review, working capital analytics, inventory-related analysis, capital projects, and cost savings validation.
- Be a business partner to assigned operating areas through utilization of operational knowledge and business acumen to translate operational actions into financial impacts.
- Partner with operations, procurement, accounting, and mill leadership to understand operational drivers, spending trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide support and leadership to internal and external audit processes, including maintaining compliance and documentation of internal controls applicable to assigned functional areas.
- Identify and implement process efficiency improvements across close, controls, forecasting, budgeting, reporting, analytics, and finance team development.
- Prepare ad hoc financial and business-related analysis and research as necessary, from an operations and business perspective.
- Establish strong working relationships with internal customers and serve as a trusted business partner to assigned operating areas.
- Become knowledgeable in various financial and operating systems in order to provide support and direction as the business requires.
- Support the mill environment with a focus on safety, operational discipline, and continuous improvement.
- Develop relationships with peers at the mills, division and corporate to identify and implement best practices.
What you need to succeed:- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Typically requires 10+ years of relevant finance, accounting, or FP&A.
- CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
- Manufacturing/Industrial background preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading month-end close processes, financial reporting, variance analysis, and business planning activities.
- Strong understanding of Record to Report, Procure to Pay, internal controls, journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statement review.
- Experience leading cross-functional close deliverables and the ability to functionally lead analysts through recurring close and reporting processes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills, passion for improvement. Enjoy working in a team/collaborative environment.
- Advanced skills in Excel and Hyperion SmartView. Experience with BlackLine, QlikView/Power Bi a plus.
- Ability to work independently, balancing routine responsibilities with ad hoc requests.
- Able to thrive in a growing and fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience in manufacturing industry preferred but not required.
- Must possess potential to advance to a broader finance leadership role.
