This position opens October 8, 2026, and closes Monday October 26, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST.Eugene Water & Electric Board is seeking a strong, team-oriented Meter Relay Technician or Trainee to install, test and commission, troubleshoot and maintain transmission, distribution, generation, and substation protective relaying systems and auxiliary equipment controls including voltage regulators, governors, synchronizers, revenue meters, reclosers, automatic transfer switches. This position is instrumental in maintaining reliable protection systems for the community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Install, add, or replace meters, relays, control circuits and telemetering equipment; review drawings and make necessary field corrections.
- Test and calibrate relays, ammeters, voltmeters, panel meters, current transformers, potential transformers, transducers, gauges, control circuits and other associated equipment. Record and evaluate results. Maintain equipment records.
- Utilize test equipment and test electrical devices and systems to determine suitability for service. Accurately record data, repair, adjust or calibrate equipment. Report condition or status as appropriate. Read and interpret electrical drawings: one-lines, three-lines, schematics, connection diagrams, etc. Develop and document test plans, results forms and work procedures as required.
- Assist Crew Leader in making suggestions to Electric Operations and Engineering personnel in the design and planning process.
- Assist Crew Leader in preparing cost estimate for future jobs.
- Lead or participate in the crew tailboard discussion so the crew can work safely and efficiently.
- Assist the Crew Leader in planning jobs and scheduling work.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING - Understanding of principles of electricity, basic math, wiring and connections and the ability to apply and teach this knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with teammates and those in other departments.
Work Schedule: 4-10's, Monday - Thursday 6:30AM- 5:00PM. Automated call out system, to call for emergency response and storm damage restoration.
Type and frequency of personal contact required (general public, customers, organizations, and EWEB employees): Daily contact with EWEB employees and general public.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS The starting hourly wage for the position is $70.4256 - $77.3908. The successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate step level and corresponding wage, based on previous experience, training, and knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Experience: Meter Relay Trainee: Must have completed a three-year, state-approved apprenticeship in an electrical discipline or equivalent Electric Utility experience.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Desirable education, experience, training and certifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering.

Apprenticeship or other education/training required as a condition of employment, progression or advancement: Must obtain a First Aid/CPR Card. If hired as a Trainee, must complete EWEB-approved three-year meter relay training program to attain journey status.
