About the Role:

The incumbent to this position will perform Blood Bank and Donor Center procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures. Responsible to investigate and resolve complex technical problems. Assist the Manager with the technical direction and day-to-day operations of Transfusion Medicine.

What You'll Bring:

Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Medical Technology or equivalent related field of science. (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
  • 3 years Related and progressive experience (Required)
  • 1-year supervisory experience (Required)


Required Skills/Knowledge
Must successfully complete the CNMC Trustworthiness and Reliability assessment, including fingerprinting, as a requirement of the position

Required Licenses and Certifications
  • Medical Technologist (MT) Registry or eligible as MT(ASCP).
  • Certified as a technologist by HEW or a similar regulatory agency. (Required)
  • SBB certification (Preferred)


Functional Accountabilities

SOPs
  • Devise, prepare, and administer training protocols, schedules, and methods/forms; review and update Standard Operating (SOP) manuals.


Cost Effectiveness

  • Search for less costly ways of doing things.
  • Review worksheets, records, and logs daily; maintain adequate inventory of supplies and reagents and help assure cost effective use of supplies and reagents.


Technical Requirements
  • Perform routine and specialized technical procedures in Transfusion Medicine in accordance with standard operating procedures; serve as a technical resource for Transfusion Medicine staff as well as physicians and other hospital staff.


Accreditation
  • Assist the Manager and Medical Directors to maintain accreditation and licensure, organize work, meet prescribed deadlines, update computer programs, and investigate and establish new methods and procedures.


Quality Control
  • Oversee operation of instruments and equipment; conduct performance checks, calibrations, and perform preventative maintenance per regulatory guidelines.
  • Establish and oversee Quality Assurance / Quality Control / Variance Reporting / Performance Improvement programs; monitor analyses of proficiency testing samples.


Safety
  • Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
  • Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
  • Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation
  • Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication
  • Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers
  • Attend carefully to important details - practicing Stop, Think, Act and Review in order to self-check behavior and performance

The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children's National believes an individual's base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children's National compensation philosophy. These factors are legitimate and non-discriminatory including, but not limited to, the current market conditions; organizational needs; the individual's combination of prior work experience, level of education, knowledge, skills, and other qualifications. Children's National is committed to providing a fair and competitive total rewards package to each of our employees. This base salary range does not include our comprehensive benefits package or any additional compensation for which this position may be eligible.
