We are looking for a hardware development manager to lead the mechanical engineering team responsible for designing these systems. In this role, you will own the mechanical design of EOAT used across a variety of tasks, guiding your team through complex challenges in mechanisms, actuation, motor design, kinematics, and structural analysis. You will set technical direction, grow your team, and collaborate closely with electrical, software, sensor, safety, manufacturing, and deployment partners to bring new tooling from concept to production. This is a chance to build something that does not yet exist and shape how automation works inside Amazon's operations network.
Key job responsibilities
- Own the mechanical design roadmap for robotic EOAT, defining goals, priorities, and metrics that balance near-term deliverables with the team's long-term technical strategy in mechanisms, actuation, and structural design.
- Lead and grow a team of mechanical engineers through hands-on coaching, development planning, and strategic project assignments, while actively recruiting to expand the team's capabilities.
- Drive technical problem solving across the design lifecycle - root-cause analysis, trade-off evaluation, and design reviews - applying expertise in motor design, kinematics, and structural and thermal analysis to guide your team toward reliable, cost-effective solutions.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, sensor, safety, manufacturing, and deployment teams to integrate mechanical subsystems into the full EOAT and ensure designs meet system-level requirements.
- Establish and refine engineering processes, design standards, and quality mechanisms that reduce iteration cycles and position the team to scale as program complexity increases.
A day in the life
You start your morning reviewing mechanical design progress with your engineers, working through actuation trade-offs on an active EOAT program. Mid-morning you join a cross-functional design review with electrical and sensor partners, asking probing questions to tighten the integration approach. After lunch you hold one-on-ones with direct reports, discussing career development and providing feedback on recent simulation results. Later you draft a narrative for leadership outlining the team's next-quarter priorities, grounding your recommendations in test data and deployment feedback.
