As a Mechanical Engineering - Associate Manager, you can expect to manage a team of engineers responsible for definition, interpretation, and implementation of space vehicle level mechanical and thermal blanket design requirements. This includes task delegation, coordination and execution of hardware designs and drawings in support of program/operational milestones.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Being a valued member of the Mechanical Products Talent Center organization, your responsibilities may include some of the following:
  • Manage a diverse team of Mechanical Integration and Thermal Blanket Engineers as they support program and operations milestones. This team supports efforts from Bid and Proposal phases to Launch.
  • Responsible for staffing, day-to-day tasking, and talent development of the mechanical integration and thermal blankets design teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Utilize Full Spectrum Leadership to directly lead a team of engineers to research, design, analyze, and develop innovative components, assemblies, and systems of varying complexity while assuring sound technical rigor and timely delivery.
  • Lead and/or participate in integrated product teams, reciprocally interacting with other leaders, engineers, adjacent functions, suppliers, and stakeholders, to support products through the entire engineering lifecycle.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders and senior leadership teams to manage staffing requirements, plan job assignments/rotations to sustain engineering capabilities and critical skills while ensuring technical processes, tools, and training are available and properly implemented.
  • Support new business strategy and capture efforts with proposal support and management of product strategy including identifying and managing risks and opportunities.
  • Occasional travel.


Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions. Directs application of research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education with commensurate years of professional experience.
  • Experienced in leading a small technical team, either functionally or directly, in a collaborative environment using strong communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Ability to be largely autonomous while operating in a dynamic environment while dealing with complex unforeseen challenges, balancing technical, personnel, cost, and schedule factors.
  • Experienced in the application of basic Mechanical Engineering principles, theories and concepts in the design, production, test, and integration of mechanical systems.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance; US citizenship is required.


Desired Skills

  • Demonstrated skills in Top Level(Final) Assembly or Thermal Blanket design.
  • Demonstrated experience directly managing a technical team in a collaborative environment with broad impact and senior leadership exposure.
  • Experienced with project management skillsets including managing cost accounts, schedules, and risks/opportunities as well as generating estimates and proposals.
  • Direct experience with complex aerospace mechanical subsystems and associated interfaces, including hardware design, analysis, manufacture, test, and integration.
  • Familiarity with Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) software and systems engineering tools.
  • Active security clearance.
  • Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice


Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $118000.00 - $219100.00

Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Flexible work arrangements and schedules (e.g., 4x10), 401(k) match, Paid time off, Holidays, Parental Leave, EAP, Flexible Spending Accounts, Education Assistance, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability.
  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
