Overview

Responsibilities

  • Work with and mentor other engineers and designer/drafters to design, develop, analyze, and support the fabrication of pressurized mechanical systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater, for underwater launchers
  • Develop Technical Data Packages (TDPs) with the use of free body diagrams, stress calculations, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in ANSYS to prove design meets certain requirements
  • Support designer/drafter’s by creating 3D CAD parts, assemblies, and 2D drawings in SolidWorks
  • Select design materials based on stress calculations as well as commercial and/or military specifications.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of drawings and technical data packages (TDPs).
  • Interface with customers and government sponsors.
  • Support possible testing of designs onboard submarines and in test facilities with some foreign travel possible.
  • Conduct research of submarine construction drawings using the Advanced Technical Information Support (ATIS) System.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering.
  • Ability to maintain a DoW Secret Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance
  • Physically capable to conduct ship checks on United States Nuclear Submarines:
  • Be comfortable in relatively confined spaces.
  • Capable of climbing vertical ladders (20’ – 25’) within the submarine.
  • At least three (3) years professional experience doing stress analysis with hand calculations
  • At least three (3) years professional experience using FEA tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, Nastran, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation
  • Professional experience with Microsoft Office
Pay Transparency StatementAMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $90,000.00/Yr. - USD $110,000/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
