Full Job Description
Overview

SSOE is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support complex cleanroom and advanced manufacturing facility projects from concept through startup. In this role, you will develop and coordinate mechanical system designs for HVAC, exhaust, chilled water, boiler, process utility, and wastewater systems that support high-performance manufacturing environments. You will perform design calculations, support equipment sizing and system layouts, and use AutoCAD and Revit to produce accurate documents aligned with project requirements. You will collaborate closely with project managers, discipline leads, clients, contractors, and other engineering teams to resolve design challenges, manage changes, maintain quality, and support constructability, safety, and schedule goals throughout the project lifecycle.

AI and Innovation

At SSOE, we don’t just talk about the future, we build it. As a leader in industry AI adoption, we empower our team to work smarter by providing responsible access to the industry leading AI Large Language Models, vibe-coding platforms, and securely integrating advanced tools into every role. From day one, you’ll receive the training and support needed to leverage AI as a core tool for enhancing productivity, sparking creativity, and streamlining complex workflows.

Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical engineering design for cleanroom, fab, and advanced technology facilities, including HVAC, exhaust, chilled water, boiler, pump, and wastewater systems.
  • Develop design calculations, equipment sizing, and system layouts for air handling units, VAV systems, chillers, boilers, pump hydraulics, exhaust ventilation, and process-related utilities.
  • Perform detailed mechanical system calculations including load analysis, airflow modeling, equipment sizing, pump head curves, pressure drop, and energy consumption to optimize system performance and support design decisions.
  • Prepare and coordinate mechanical drawings and models using AutoCAD and Revit, ensuring alignment with project standards, client requirements, and multidisciplinary design intent.
  • Support system analysis and hydraulic modeling to evaluate pressure drop, flow balance, and equipment performance.
  • Coordinate closely with architects, process engineers, electrical engineers, structural teams, and project managers to integrate mechanical systems into complex facility designs.
  • Participate in design reviews, QA/QC checks, and interdisciplinary model coordination using Navisworks to identify clashes and support resolution before construction.
  • Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and evaluate vendor data to confirm compliance with design intent, applicable codes, and project specifications.
  • Conduct site walks, field investigations, and construction administration support to verify installation, resolve field conditions, and support change management (if applicable).
  • Incorporate applicable codes, standards, and safety protocols into design work, with attention to constructability, maintainability, reliability, and operational safety.
  • Contribute to project schedules and deliverables by managing assigned tasks, coordinating with internal teams, and maintaining documentation accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated expertise in HVAC systems design, including air handling units, VAV systems, chillers, boilers, pump hydraulics, exhaust ventilation, and wastewater discharge equipment.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit for mechanical design is required.
  • Experience with Navisworks and PIPE-FLO or similar hydraulic modeling software is strongly preferred.
  • Experience designing or coordinating mechanical systems for HVAC, exhaust, piping, plumbing, process chemicals, wastewater discharge, or other related building systems.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, constructability, and code-compliant design practices for complex facility environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to project managers, clients, contractors, and cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment while managing priorities and contributing to project quality and schedule goals.
  • Salary Range: $75,000 - $140,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position. Opportunity for ample rewards and leadership incentive/bonus program
  • Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Professional Engineering (PE) license. This credential may qualify candidates for the higher end of the salary range, depending on experience and overall qualifications.
  • Benefits: Includes comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, 401K retirement savings plan (with company matching), opportunities for professional development and training (including support for relevant licensure & certifications), and generous PTO & paid holidays.

Join us at SSOE, where your expertise will thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment dedicated to pushing the boundaries of design and engineering excellence.
