A Day in the Life of a Mechanical Engineer (EIT) at Hanson
As a Mechanical Engineer (EIT), you will support the planning, design, and construction of building mechanical systems for a variety of facility projects. Working alongside engineers and project managers, you will help develop innovative and practical solutions for clients while gaining experience across multiple project types.
Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:
- Conduct facility studies, assessments, and evaluations, including:
- Existing system due diligence reviews
- Facility condition assessments
- Feasibility and conceptual design studies
- Probable construction costs
- Indoor air quality evaluations
- Utility master planning
- Assist in the design of:
- HVAC systems
- Building automation systems and energy management systems.
- Plumbing systems
- Fire protection systems
- Special piping systems
- Prepare construction drawings and contract documents using Revit.
- Perform field investigations and document existing mechanical systems.
- Assist engineers with:
- Load calculations
- Energy modeling
- Equipment selection
- System layouts and design development
- Support the preparation of technical specifications, reports, and design documentation.
- Participate in shop drawing reviews and construction administration activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by project and department leadership.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree inmechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience designing and drafting (modeling) mechanical building systems (including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection).
- Experience with building systems commissioning is a plus.
- E.I.T. certification.
- PE or ability to get licensed in one (1) year a plus.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with Revit.
- Experience with Trane Trace or similar energy modeling/load calculation software is preferred.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Ability to interpret construction documents, including engineering drawings and specifications.
Professional Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to engineers, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new technical concepts and software tools.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Interest in supporting a variety of project types and technical assignments.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members located in multiple office locations.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for project-related assignments and field investigations.
- Ability to work additional hours when necessary to meet project schedules and client commitments.
This is an exempt position. The salary range for this role is between $95,000 6,000depending on experience.
