Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer will:
- Lead the design the structural and mechanical components and assemblies of critical, cutting-edge spaceflight systems, establishing technical approaches, evaluating trade studies, and ensuring system-level integration and performance
- Delivery of high-quality models, documentation, and drawings that meet customer requirements and engineering standards
- Review and approve models and drawings of other engineers
- Perform preliminary analysis (FEA and hand calculations) to demonstrate compliance with spaceflight design standards
- Facilitate the manufacturing, assembly, and delivery of spaceflight hardware
- Serve as a primary technical interface with customer counterparts, requirement owners, suppliers, and integrated product teams to define requirements, resolve technical issues, and promote mission success.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
- BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited engineering school, plus ten (10) years of related engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design efforts through the full product lifecycle
- Expertise in complex assemblies, hardware development, and production support.
- Applied experience using CAD modeling software (Creo, NX, SolidWorks, etc.)
- Applied experience creating engineering drawings to ASME Y14.5 (GD&T)
- Project management or other leadership experience
- Experience working on cross-discipline engineering teams
- Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal), integration, coordination and presentation skills
Preferences:
- Working experience with spaceflight
- Applied experience using FEA modeling software (Ansys, Simcenter, etc)
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with requirement development, decomposition, documentation, and review
- Experience developing technical documentation
- Working experience with Windchill
- Working experience with product lifecycle management software
- Master of Science degree in Engineering
Essential Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
- May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
- Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
- Generally, an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
- Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
- Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
- Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
- Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.

- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
