Role:As a mechanical designer of space products, you will work with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop antennas and structures used on state-of-the-art satellites. As part of one or more project teams, and under the supervision of an experienced engineer, you will be responsible for developing concepts for our custom space products for international clients. From the proposal phase through detailed design, you will define the components of mechanical assemblies to ensure that the final product meets the client's specific needs and can withstand harsh environmental space conditions. To design the product, you will use a suite of state-of-the-art software tools, such as 3D design and simulation software, to model concepts and predict product behavior. You will help develop mass-production budgets and provide support for the manufacturing and mechanical testing of the equipment, which is typically conducted at MDA. You may also be asked to support research and development of new, high-performance designs and to monitor international component suppliers. As a designer, you will be responsible for coordinating design-related activities to ensure the project progresses smoothly.
Responsibilities/Duties:- Design the mechanical components of antennas, payloads, or space electronics units
- Understand customer requirements
- Propose designs that meet the requirements
- Select and design components based on the constraints to be met
- Integrate designs from the fields of electrical engineering, materials science, structural analysis, and thermal analysis into a 3D model
- Develop and review manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and bill of materials
- Evaluate system costs and establish schedules
- Monitor the progress of component suppliers' activities
- Support the integration and testing of components into higher-level assemblies (during the design and manufacturing phases)
- Develop bill of materials (BOM) budgets
- Present concepts to the client
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or an equivalent field
- Ability to work as part of a team
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical design

- Proficiency in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel
Preferred Qualifications:- Bilingual (English/French) - (Work in collaboration with the staff at the Ontario headquarters.)
- Experience in mechanical design
- Knowledge of geometric tolerances and drafting standards
- Knowledge of CAD design (NX, Creo, or Catia)
- Knowledge of the aerospace industry
