Carnegie Robotics works on one of the broadest spectrums of products of any robotics company: there are always new challenges to attack.

What Your Day to Day Is
  • Modelling parts and assemblies in CAD (Solidworks) both for concept development and detailed sensor and mechanism design
  • Creating drawings for manufacturing using GD&T, working with suppliers to improve design for manufacturability
  • Working with engineering technicians to quickly prototype in-house, using Carnegie's waterjet, lasercutter, mill, lathe, sheet metal tools, welding equipment, and 3D printer farm
  • Creating and maintaining engineering bill of materials
  • Working with production technicians and engineers to transition prototype products to production validated builds
  • Preparing and presenting product reports as needed for management, suppliers, and customers
  • Travelling occasionally (5% of time or less) to support on-site testing of systems
  • Performing other duties as assigned

What You'll Have
  • Associates Degree in drafting, preferably mechanical design or a related field
  • Product design background, including design work that integrates mechanisms and electronics
  • Strong ability with CAD tools (SolidWorks is preferred)
  • A strong sense of personal accountability and initiative
  • Ability to thrive in an independent environment
  • Strong understanding of mechanisms and the tradeoffs between cost, weight, reliability, lead time and complexity
  • Written and presentation skills required to communicate to external customers and internally to teammates
  • Authorization to work for any US employer. The company is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

How You'll Stand Out
  • Have a propensity to build and test things on your own time, exhibiting a deep interest in engineering design and analysis both in the office and at home
  • Ideal candidates will have seen robotics and mechanical challenges before and will additionally have:
    • Familiarity with GD&T drawings, BOM management, and releasing products to a production group
    • Experience in production-level design and testing methods

What You'll Get Out Of It
  • UPMC health coverage with FSA or HSA options
  • Comprehensive dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Fidelity 401(k) plan with employer match
