Mechanical Design Engineer to design, develop, and implement automated assembly solutions in a high-volume electronics manufacturing environment. This role will focus on the mechanical design and integration of automation cells utilizing industrial robots, custom end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), automated fastening systems, vision systems, and precision assembly equipment.This position is based onsite in
Austin, TXWhat a typical day looks like:- Design and develop automated assembly cells, workstations, and production equipment to improve throughput, quality, and efficiency.
- Create 3D CAD models, mechanical layouts, detailed drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
- Design functional prototypes and custom tooling through 3D printing to support engineering and automation projects.
- Design and develop custom automated solutions, including robotic, end-of-arm-tooling (EOAT) for material handling, assembly, fastening, inspections and insertion as well as fixture applications, and poka-yoke systems.
- Perform engineering analyses, including tolerance stack-ups, structural calculations, cycle time studies, and mechanical stress evaluations.
- Support equipment commissioning, debugging, validation, and production startup activities.
- Collaborate with Electrical, Controls, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering teams to integrate automation solutions and establish process controls.
- Work with suppliers and machine builders on custom automation equipment and tooling.
- Support project planning, cost estimation, procurement, scheduling, and supplier management.
- Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, manufacturability, and company engineering standards.
The experience we're looking to add to our team- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 2+ years of experience
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software and mechanical design documentation (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience designing automated manufacturing equipment, robotics, and assembly systems.
- Strong knowledge of industrial robots, EOAT, fastening technologies, conveyors, sensors, and automation hardware.
- Understanding of DFM, DFA, DFR, tolerance analysis, and machine design principles.
- Experience supporting equipment integration, testing, and production launch activities.
- Strong problem-solving, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
