Location: Naperville, IL - Onsite

In your role as Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work very closely with the shop, sales and engineering teams in a uniquely blended role to see our custom conveyor products from concept to installation. Your role will design new products from initial sketch to bringing new products to market.

Overview:

In your role as Mechanical Design Engineer, innovation is key. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing engineering solutions to meet project requirements. This role requires a high level of creativity and resourcefulness, technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and engineer custom conveyor solutions, frame adaptations, drive assemblies, and component layouts based on customer specifications and release documentation.
  • Modify existing catalog items and proven conveyance designs to meet unique customer floor layouts, sanitary standards, and throughput requirements.
  • Perform mechanical calculations for conveyor drive sizing, motor/gearbox selection, belt tensioning, shaft loading, and structural rigidity.
  • Create, check, and revise detailed 3D CAD models, assembly drawings, piece-part manufacturing prints, and complete Bills of Materials (BOMs) for shop floor use.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams-including manufacturing technicians, project managers, sales engineering, and shop floor leads-to ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide actionable technical guidance, drawing clarifications, and troubleshooting support to fabrication, welding, and assembly technicians.
  • Conduct detailed engineering analyses and evaluations to identify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, and performance enhancement.
  • Ensure full compliance with industry standards, food safety sanitary guidelines (USDA/FDA where applicable), and company manufacturing best practices throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Participate in design reviews, prototype testing, and shop floor fit-up evaluations to resolve mechanical interferences prior to customer shipment.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and design support to lower-level design engineers.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies to continuously improve engineering practices.
  • Adhere to all Safety policies and procedures continuing to promote the Company's culture of providing a safe work environment.
  • Maintain a positive and proactive attitude towards all colleagues, members of Management, and customers.
  • Ability to work on other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Eaglestone's Offerings:
  • Compensation: $80,000 - $105,000/year. Salary offered will be based on experience, education and skillsets.

Work Location and Schedule:
  • Your role will require in-office Monday through Friday in Naperville, IL. We are close to I-88, near Diehl Rd and Route 59.
  • Some weekend work is required depending on business needs.
  • Some travel required to visit customer facilities.

Required Education, Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • 5+ years of dedicated mechanical design experience, preferably in custom food grade conveyors, automated machinery, or capital equipment
  • Deep, advanced technical mastery of material handling mechanics, including sanitary design principles (USDA/FDA compliance for food industries), belt/chain routing, drive calculations, and structural design.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (such as SolidWorks or Inventor) preferred Inventor experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of integrating pneumatic components, variable frequency drives (VFDs), photo-eyes, and automated sorting hardware into mechanical designs.
  • Experience in guiding, mentoring and training more junior level Team Members.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with customers, Team Members and Leadership.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours
  • Reliable transportation to and from work and customer sites.
