Job DescriptionBasic Duties and Responsibilities: The Regional Engineer is a highly experienced representative in the drinking water and wastewater industry, with extensive contacts and recognized expertise across the utility, construction, and engineering communities. This role contributes to securing a higher-than-average share of major projects within the assigned region.
Additional responsibilities would include enhancing the Company's position through improved specifications and market perception creating the ability to secure smaller orders, greater customer loyalty and higher margins on these smaller orders. As the size and resources available to the Sales Operations Department will not allow them to be the only source for this work, the Regional Engineer will primarily call on the Top 50 utilities, municipalities with greater than 500,000 people and other similarly primary project users.
Territory includes Western Region: WA, OR, CA, NE, UT, CO, AZ, ID, MO, ND, SD, WY, NM, AK, and HIPrimary Duties Would Include: - Call on city engineers and specifying officials within the region, both independently and in support of Division Sales Representatives, with emphasis on major national firms and identified projects of five hundred tons or more.
- Build professional relationships with engineers and officials through business lunches, dinners, and other appropriate activities.
- Maintain active involvement in regional AWWA chapters and other industry organizations through meetings, committees, volunteer service, and board participation, as appropriate.
- Attend relevant national, state, and local trade shows, meetings, and conferences.
- Serve as the regional authority and primary resource for McWane Ductile products, including design, installation, pipe, fittings, gaskets, restrained joints, and specialty products within the engineering and specifications community.
- Promote the use of Ductile iron (DI) over alternate materials and imported DI pipe.
- Develop and present programs for engineering and specifying groups, including regional lunch-and-learns with Sales Representatives and Days of Water training with other McWane divisions.
- Travel with regional Sales Representatives on engineering and specification calls to support their knowledge and experience.
- Maintain accurate CRM contact records for major engineering firms and code enforcement agencies in the region.
Key Responsibilities:- Report on projects and bids during the planning, predesign, design, and pre-bid stages.
- Prepare assigned sales reports.
- Conduct prospecting and develop customers and leads.
- Create and submit papers and presentations to trade associations and industry groups.
Performance/Activity Requirements:- Plan sales calls and activities at least two weeks in advance using Outlook Calendar.
- Maintain accurate and complete CRM entries for calls, activities, and pursuits.
- Complete an average of ten sales or technical customer calls per week.
- Submit expense reports biweekly.
- Submit weekly activity reports and an annual summary of training completed and notable project involvement.
- Obtain relevant continuing education units (CEUs) and /or Professional Development Hours (PDHs) as may be necessary to maintain certifications.
QualificationsMinimum Educational and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline and at least 10 years of sales experience with specification-driven products. A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred.
- Ten years of experience in a high-profile role within the utility, water, wastewater, or construction industry may be considered in lieu of an engineering degree.
- Must be willing to pursue and obtain industry-related credentials, such as ENV SP, Assoc. DBIA, or AMPP credentials, as determined by the Sales Operations Manager.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications.
- Knowledge of water and wastewater systems and operations.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Must be willing to relocate if necessary.
- Must be willing to travel an average of three nights per week.
