Job Responsibilities: Position Objective
The Engineer, Supply Planning, is responsible for designing, planning, and implementing optimized material flow, packaging, and equipment processes within Division Mesa. This role ensures an effective balance between regulatory requirements, customer specifications, material management strategies, and production constraints. The engineer performs logistics calculations for new products and model updates, defining packaging standards, material handling equipment, headcount, and facility specifications to support end-to-end material flow activities.
Role Overview – Supply Chain Engineering Perspective
From a Supply Chain Engineering standpoint, this position serves as the architect of the end-to-end value stream within Division Mesa. You will drive the integration of new products into the division by combining material flow engineering, custom packaging development, and material handling equipment planning through Lean Management principles, MTM (Methods-Time Measurement), and time study practices. Your work ensures highly efficient, synchronized material flows that minimize risks, optimize warehouse and line-side space, reduce lead times, and support the division’s operational and strategic objectives. The ideal candidate thinks systematically, uses data to drive decisions, and creates comprehensive logistics, packaging, and equipment solutions that enable operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Coordination
- Lead and plan logistics, packaging, and equipment initiatives for the Mesa site, taking into account operational needs across the entire supply chain.
- Coordinate cross-functional project efforts and support the achievement of Division Mesa’s operational objectives.
- Track and manage project progress, focusing on key milestones relevant to material flow, packaging readiness, and equipment deployment.
Process, Packaging & Equipment Planning
- Analyze, evaluate, and optimize existing logistics, packaging, and material flow processes utilizing a PFEP (Plan for Every Part) approach.
- Packaging Planning: Design, specify, and validate standard and custom packaging concepts (returnable containers, dunnage, expendable packaging, rack systems) to optimize density, ensure part protection, and reduce freight/handling costs.
- Equipment Planning: Determine specifications, perform capacity/ROI calculations, and select material handling equipment (AGVs/AMRs, forklifts, tuggers, line-side racks, shelving, racking, and automation) tailored to material flow requirements.
- Develop technical documentation, packaging specifications, equipment operating standards, and work instructions (WI) for material handling operations.
- Conduct capacity and ergonomic analyses using MTM and time study principles for material movement, packaging execution, and equipment utilization.
- Manage logistics change requests in alignment with packaging updates, equipment modifications, and intralogistics requirements.
Optimization & Standardization
- Develop and implement standardized logistics, packaging guidelines, and equipment handling procedures across Division Mesa.
- Ensure alignment of site-level packaging, equipment, and logistics standards with central logistics guidelines and customer packaging manuals.
- Collaborate in the optimization and implementation of logistics IT systems (e.g., SAP WM/MM, packaging management systems, fleet management).
- Apply Lean Management methodologies and strictly adhere to MAFACT requirements.
Logistics Quotation & Calculation
- Create logistics, packaging, and equipment premise inputs for new business proposals (RFQs).
- Calculate comprehensive logistics costs (freight, packaging container loops, fleet investments, line-side equipment) in alignment with Division Mesa’s strategic direction.
- Evaluate holistic logistics concepts, including floor space needs, container fleet sizing, fleet/equipment capital expenditure (CAPEX), workforce requirements, and necessary investments.
Required Profile
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the automotive industry.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in logistics, supply chain engineering, packaging design/planning, equipment selection, or material flow planning.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of SCM processes, material flow planning, packaging specifications (returnable/expendable), material handling equipment planning, and MTM/time study fundamentals.
- Proven experience in packaging loop calculations, dunnage design, line-side presentation techniques, and fleet sizing for material handling equipment.
- Demonstrated experience applying Lean manufacturing and ergonomic principles to optimize material handling and packaging processes.
Software Competencies
- Advanced proficiency in SAP MM and WM preferred
- Strong command of MS Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and exposure to CAD/3D software for packaging or layout design is a plus.
Education
- Degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Relevant technical diploma or comparable hands-on industry experience may be considered.
