Role OverviewThis role offers a unique opportunity to own the customer journey for RunningMate.
Unlike a traditional Business Development Representative position, RunningMate does not have a dedicated sales team. As our Marketing BDR, you will serve as the primary point of contact for prospective customers, guiding them from their first interaction through purchase.
Working closely with Marketing, Customer Success, and Product, you'll engage inbound leads, generate outbound opportunities, build relationships with prospective customers, conduct product demonstrations when appropriate, and help campaigns identify the RunningMate solution that best fits their needs.

What You'll DoOwn the Lead-to-Customer Journey- Serve as the primary sales contact for all RunningMate prospects.
- Own all marketing-generated RunningMate leads, including those from webinars, events, digital campaigns, website inquiries, the RunningMate Simulator, partnerships, and social media.
- Respond promptly to inbound inquiries and guide prospects through the evaluation and purchasing process.
- Conduct discovery conversations to understand customer goals and recommend the appropriate RunningMate solution.
- Deliver product demonstrations when appropriate.
- Build relationships with prospective customers through consistent, personalized follow-up.
- Convert qualified prospects into RunningMate Pro and Plus customers.
Generate New Business- Identify and engage prospective customers through outbound email, phone, LinkedIn, and other outreach channels.
- Research political campaigns, organizations, consultants, and advocacy groups that may benefit from RunningMate.
- Develop outbound prospecting strategies that complement Marketing's demand generation efforts.
- Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of prospective customers.
Manage the Sales Pipeline- Maintain accurate prospect and pipeline information in HubSpot.
- Develop nurture and follow-up sequences that keep prospects engaged throughout the buying journey.
- Track pipeline performance, lead progression, and conversion metrics.
- Provide regular reporting and insights to Marketing leadership.
Collaborate Across Teams- Partner with Marketing to maximize the impact of campaigns, webinars, events, and content.
- Share customer insights that help improve messaging, positioning, and future marketing initiatives.
- Collaborate with Sales to identify opportunities for cross-product engagement, support bundled solutions when appropriate, and help position RunningMate within Civitech's broader product portfolio.
- Work closely with Customer Success to ensure a seamless customer transition after purchase.
- Collaborate with Product by sharing customer feedback and identifying opportunities for continued product improvement.
Support Marketing ProgramsWhile Marketing owns strategy, planning, and execution, this role serves as a key partner in helping marketing initiatives generate qualified customers.
- Partner with the Marketing team to support webinars, events and conferences, and other lead generation initiatives.
- Assist with webinar logistics, attendee engagement, and post-event lead follow-up.
- Coordinate with Customer Success to ensure prospects experience a seamless journey before and after marketing programs.
- Identify opportunities to improve the customer experience across marketing touchpoints.
- Share customer feedback and campaign insights to help optimize future marketing initiatives.
What This Role Does Not OwnThis role is a member of the Marketing organization but does not own the planning, strategy, or execution of Marketing programs. Those responsibilities remain with the Marketing team and include:
- Marketing strategy and go-to-market planning
- Campaign development and execution
- Content and collateral creation
- Webinar planning and production
- Event strategy and execution
- Brand messaging and positioning
- Paid media, email marketing, and demand generation
Instead, this role focuses on engaging, nurturing, and converting the leads generated through these initiatives into RunningMate customers.
What You Bring- 1 to 3 years of experience in business development, inside sales, sales development, or another customer-facing sales role.
- Experience managing inbound leads while proactively generating new opportunities through outbound outreach.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills.
- Excellent organization and follow-through with the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
- Experience using HubSpot or another CRM platform.
- A self-starter mindset with a passion for helping customers succeed and contributing to a growing business.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience selling SaaS or technology solutions.
- Experience working with political campaigns, nonprofits, advocacy organizations, or civic technology.
- Familiarity with digital marketing and lead nurturing strategies.
What Success Looks LikeIn this role, you will:
- Convert marketing-generated leads into paying RunningMate customers.
- Increase conversion rates from the RunningMate Simulator and other lead generation programs.
- Execute a consistent lead follow-up process and help identify ways to improve it.
- Support outbound campaigns that generate new opportunities.
- Help establish and grow RunningMate's sales function while partnering closely with Marketing to drive sustainable revenue growth.
$65,000 - $72,000 a month
Classification, Salary, and Benefits: Full-time, competitive salary commensurate with location and experience.
Base salary: $65,000-$72,000
May be eligible for discretionary incentive bonuses
