Position Overview:
As part of the second line of defense, the Credit and Market Risk team is essential in protecting CIBC Mellon from credit, market, and liquidity risks. The Market Risk Manager is responsible for reviewing and challenging the risk analytics and strategies developed by first line business units, ensuring their accuracy, integrity, and effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
• Communicate market exposures, risk concerns, and recommended mitigation strategies clearly and effectively to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Partner with business units and senior leaders to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate potential risk exposures within approved risk appetite.
• Act as a subject matter expert and provide expert advice and independent challenge on risk issues, business initiatives, transactions, and strategic decisions.
• Contribute to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of risk management policies, procedures, controls, and frameworks in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, feedback, and technical guidance to junior members of the team.
• Monitor market developments, emerging risks, and industry trends, and recommend enhancements to risk management strategies, reporting, and processes.
• Oversee market and credit risk activities CIBC Mellon is exposed to, ensuring all risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and mitigated in accordance with regulatory requirements and the company's strategic objectives and risk appetite.
• Promote risk awareness and a strong risk culture across the organization by sharing expertise and providing guidance to colleagues and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management, with demonstrated experience in market, credit, interest rate, and liquidity risk.
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• Progress toward or completion of professional designations such as CFA, FRM, CSC, or other relevant investment and risk-related certifications is considered an asset.
• Proven knowledge of risk measurement methodologies, including fixed income valuation and risk sensitivities.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex issues and provide sound risk-based recommendations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across cross-functional teams, business partners, and stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Job Specific Competencies:
- The salary band for this position ranges between $98,000 - $148,000.
- Individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, market conditions, relevant experience, education, training, and internal equity.
