Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to join our Electronics Manufacturing Engineering team in San Carlos, CA. This role focuses on process engineering, equipment development, and scaling products from prototype to production. The ideal candidate is highly organized and self-driven, with a strong understanding of mechanical design, design for manufacturability, process development, and quality control. Responsibilities
  • Develop manufacturing processes, assembly fixturing, tooling, and equipment to support both prototype and production builds

  • Design and optimize full production line layouts and workstations with a focus on safety, ergonomics, quality, and efficiency

  • Author clear, detailed manufacturing work instructions to ensure process consistency and repeatability

  • Lead process development using statistical methods including process capability studies, gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R), and design of experiments (DoE)

  • Ensure products and processes adhere to quality and regulatory compliance standards

  • Partner with Design Engineers throughout prototype builds and new product introduction (NPI)

  • Drive continuous improvement of existing production lines, processes, fixturing, tooling, and automated equipment, by applying Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve safety, ergonomics, and material flow

Required
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant manufacturing or production engineering experience

  • Proficiency in mechanical design, including fixture and assembly tooling design

  • Demonstrated experience writing manufacturing work instructions and designing ergonomic manual workstations

  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and assemblies, including GD&T

  • Hands-on experience across both prototype and production manufacturing environments

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar CAD software

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Desired
  • M.S. in manufacturing or mechanical engineering

  • Experience in aerospace avionics, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, or medical devices

  • Experience in manufacturing in a regulated environment such as 14 CFR Part 21, ISO9001, ISO 13485, TS16949, or equivalent

  • Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing, processing, and materials

  • Experience in one or more of the following fields: Electric motor assembly, complex mechanical assembly, electronics assembly, inverter assembly, cooling system assembly, or lithium-ion battery module/pack assembly

 

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $98,400 - $135,300/yr.  The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
