ITAR/EAR CRITERIA:

The Manufacturing Engineer leads manufacturing engineering support for one or more production value streams within the IDEX Center of Excellence (optical components, machined components, and/or optical coatings). Supports daily operations while simultaneously identifying opportunities for improvement and advancement.

In additional to the technical requirements, the successful candidate for this role will be highly skilled in cross-departmental communication and documenting engineering

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides technical support and guidance to the production team, coordinating with other engineering team members as required.
  • Designs and develops fixtures, tools, prototypes, and other production support items using SolidWorks.
  • Maintains and improves technical documentation, including design records, routings, bill of material, and work instructions.
  • Trains operators and technicians.
  • For new products, leads and/or participates in the design and development process, including configuration management and production approval processes.
  • Teams with Quality Assurance to initiate and lead root cause investigations with containment plans and corrective and preventative actions.
  • Identifies, recommends and drives process and capability improvements.
  • Develops and maintains safe work practices

PROFESSIONAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, optomechanical engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • Working proficiency in Solidworks or other 3D CAD system.
  • Ability to read and understand a variety of job-related instructions and documents, including engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks both of similar and varying priority.


Preferred:
  • 2+ years' relevant experience
  • Experience with software and documentation control best practices
  • Experience with New Product Development (NPD) stage gate processes.
  • Experience with statistical data collection and analysis, and data driven solution implementation.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Experienced in nonconformance and root cause countermeasure investigations.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T per ISO standards.
  • Prior experience in an Optics Industry supporting a Machining function is preferred.


PHYSICAL CLASSIFICATION:

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Ability to:
  • Bend as is necessary for sitting, using computers, using the telephone, and computer mouse
  • Demonstrate eye-hand coordination
  • Operate testing and measuring equipment
  • Bend as is necessary for lifting from waist to operate testing equipment
  • Apply force to adjust and operate testing equipment, turn knobs and cranks
  • Manipulate fragile parts into and out of equipment to measure size and shape
  • Grasp objects in order to turn, wipe, adjust instrumentation and safely use sharp instruments
  • Twist and turn wrists and forearms to perform inspection of optics and to operate testing equipment and computer
  • Bend at the neck to perform inspection and testing of optics and related equipment
  • Perform legible written communication.


Ability to work in a Class 1000 clean room environment wearing appropriate PPE.

Total Rewards
The compensation range for this position is $78,200.00 - $117,200.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
