Job SummaryThe Manufacturing Engineering Technician II provides hands-on technical support for advanced ceramic manufacturing at the Poway operation. This position works with Engineering, Production, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain/Purchasing, Production Control, and equipment or tooling suppliers to support safe and reliable manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, documentation, data collection, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. The role supports the development, documentation, implementation, and day-to-day sustainment of safe, repeatable, and capable ceramic manufacturing processes that meet customer and operational requirements.

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:
- Supports manufacturing processes for ceramic materials, including green fabrication, machining, firing, grinding, lapping, finishing, inspection, and packaging.
- Create, update, and maintain work instructions, process specifications, operational method sheets, routings, data sheets, and other manufacturing documentation.
- Collect and organize production data related to scrap, rework, downtime, cycle time, throughput, yield, and process performance.
- Assist engineers with experiments, process trials, first article activities, equipment qualifications, process validation, and new product introduction.
- Set up, test, and maintain tooling, fixtures, gauges, process aids, and basic automation used in production.
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting support for manufacturing, equipment, tooling, and quality issues; document findings and escalate complex issues as needed.
- Support root cause investigations, corrective actions, RCCA, and 8D activities by gathering data, verifying conditions, and completing assigned actions.
- Assist with equipment installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance coordination, and production release activities.
- Perform time studies, workflow observations, process checks, and capability data collection to support continuous improvement.
- Support facility layout changes, work-cell organization, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and other improvement activities.
- Help train production employees on approved processes, work instructions, tooling, and equipment operation.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, Production Control, Maintenance, and equipment or tooling suppliers.
- Follow all safety standards and procedures, including PPE requirements for a manufacturing environment.
- Maintain good housekeeping and an organized, clean, and safe work area.
- Other duties as needed or assigned by supervisor.
Required Skills- Practical understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, measurement, and production documentation.
- Ability to follow technical instructions, drawings, specifications, and controlled procedures.
- Ability to collect accurate data, maintain records, and identify basic trends or abnormal conditions.
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot manufacturing or equipment issues in a structured manner.
- Ability to write clear work instructions and communicate effectively with production and technical teams.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively with general supervision.
Preferred Skills- Experience with technical ceramics, multilayer ceramic manufacturing, advanced materials, semiconductor, aerospace, medical device, or precision manufacturing.
- Experience with kilns, furnaces, thermal processing, machining, grinding, lapping, inspection, or other production equipment.
- Experience using measuring instruments, gauges, data collection tools, or basic statistical methods.
- CAD experience and ability to create or revise basic tooling and fixture drawings.
- Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or structured problem-solving experience.
- Demonstrated history of running self-directed projects, managing timelines and executing projects in an manufacturing environment.
Education Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering preferred or a related Engineering discipline.
Experience Requirements- 2-4 years in a technical engineering role
- Experience in one or more related engineering areas: ceramics manufacturing, sintering, powder processing, or prototype production
Physical Requirements- Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
- Able to spend the day sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and moving through a manufacturing environment.
- Able to use computers, hand tools, measuring equipment, and production or laboratory equipment as required.
Working Conditions- 50/50 office and manufacturing environment with regular visits to production areas. Exposure to manufacturing equipment, ceramic materials, dust controls, noise, and elevated-temperature processes may occur. Required personal protective equipment must be worn as applicable. #ZR
