Full Job Description
The Infra Foundations team owns the foundational layer that every other infrastructure team builds on: AWS account provisioning, human IAM access, core networking, the IaC frameworks and workflows, and the automation that provisions and manages our cloud environments. Our mission is to provide a foundational infrastructure layer across all AWS accounts that is consistent, reliable, safe, and trustworthy, empowering every infrastructure team to provision, update, and delete their stacks quickly and safely through well-established workflows and automation.

We are looking for an engineering manager to lead this team, own its roadmap and operational health, and grow the engineers who keep Affirm's infrastructure foundation solid as we scale globally.
What You'll Do
  • Define and drive the vision and multi-quarter roadmap, tying foundational investments to critical, business-impacting outcomes while protecting space for tech-debt reduction and reliability work
  • Lead and mentor a team of infrastructure engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and technical excellence, and owning hiring, performance, and career growth
  • Partner with engineering leadership and stakeholders to align Infra Foundations priorities with broader infrastructure, platform, and security goals
  • Own the reliability and safety of the foundational layer: AWS account provisioning and bootstrapping, core networking (VPCs and interconnectivity), and human IAM access
  • Drive the team's automation charter, delivering frameworks that let other infra teams provision, update, and tear down complex stacks and whole environments safely on the existing IaC rails (GitHub, Spacelift)
  • Steward critical operational programs including AWS quota management and notifications, AMI patch management, and Ansible-based configuration management
  • Establish and hold the operational bar: SLAs for IAM requests, quota alerting thresholds, incident response for networking changes, and automated validation of provisioning and teardown
  • Partner with Security to enforce least-privilege IAM and ensure recommended permissions are adopted across teams
  • Drive smooth adoption of Infra Foundations frameworks and best practices through self-service tooling, documentation, and knowledge sharing
What We Look For
  • 7+ years of software or infrastructure engineering experience, with 2+ years of engineering management experience
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in infrastructure, platform engineering, or adjacent domains
  • Strong technical background in cloud-native and infrastructure systems (AWS preferred), with the ability to guide architecture and execution across accounts, VPC networking, and IAM
  • Experience owning or leading Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform, Spacelift, or equivalent) and GitOps-style workflows
  • Experience building and operating infrastructure automation that other teams adopt and depend on
  • Track record of operating services with a high reliability bar (monitoring, on-call, incident response, postmortems, continuous hardening)
  • Strong operational judgment and the ability to drive clarity, prioritization, and execution across a broad, heterogeneous surface area
  • Familiarity with least-privilege IAM models and partnering with Security on access governance
  • Strong programming background (Python, Go, or Kotlin preferred)
  • Strong communication and organizational leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring and growing high-performing teams
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
