Relay is entering an exciting new chapter, and we're hiring a
Manager, Performance Marketing to help shape our next stage of scale. Performance Marketing is how most small businesses first find Relay. As Manager, Performance Marketing, you will take ownership of a high-performing paid engine deploying $2-3M monthly across search, social, publishers, CTV, and direct mail. You will help us scale and optimize our channel mix while maintaining tight control over unit economics and LTV:CAC and building a team of best-in-class modern performance marketers.
What You'll Be Doing- Lead and develop a team of performance marketers. Set clear ownership, run weekly 1:1s, and coach on both craft and judgment.
- Own one or two channels or tests yourself, and be the escalation point when the team needs a call made on the channels already running.
- Keep tabs on our overall channel mix and vendor partners, continually auditing for what stays, what changes, and what gets replaced.
- Run the team's operating rhythm: prepare the weekly performance meeting, own the heartbeat metrics and the story behind them, and feed monthly budget planning.
- Bring the bigger swings. Have a point of view on the channel tests most likely to move acquisition each quarter, including the ones outside today's playbook.
- Be the performance voice in integrated campaigns, and build the feedback loops with analytics, Demand Gen, and the Creative team that turn performance data into better creative and better targeting.
Who You Are- You've owned paid media budgets of at least $200K a month, across a mix of brand and direct response spend.
- You've personally run at least two or three paid channels, not one channel for your whole career. Brand-forward channels like CTV, audio, out-of-home, or direct mail are a plus.
- You've grown other marketers, as a formal manager or through dotted-line reports and mentoring, and can name the people who got better because of you.
- You speak the numbers: LTV:CAC, attribution models from first-touch to multi-touch, and incrementality or geo testing.
- You have a track record of noticing an opportunity - a new channel, a new segment, a platform change - and going after it without being told, rather than waiting for direction.
Bonus Points- You've bought brand-forward media: CTV, audio, out-of-home or direct mail.
- You pull your own numbers in SQL or Metabase.
- You've managed publisher partners or agency relationships.
- You've worked across self-serve and sales-assisted funnels.
The Interview Process- Stage 1: A 45-minute Google Meet video call with a member of our Talent team
- Stage 2: A 45-minute Google Meet video call with the Director of Demand Generation
- Stage 3: A 60-minute live whiteboard session over Google Meet with the Marketing team
- Stage 4: A 45-minute in-person interview with a member of the Leadership team

Why Relay Might Be the Perfect Fit For You - You push relentlessly for reinvention: You're always asking "how can this be better?" -- in your work, in your craft, in yourself. Comfort is a signal to push harder, not coast. You'd rather build something better than defend something familiar.
- You crave autonomy: We trust our team with big challenges and the freedom to solve them. If you're someone who takes initiative, is comfortable taking risks, and seeks input when needed, you'll find the freedom here empowering.
- You own your work: You take pride in your work, follow through on commitments, and feel a deep sense of responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks.
- You build with AI, not just use it: You're actively embedding AI into how you work, pushing what's possible, and bringing your team along with you.
- You care about impact, not noise: You care deeply about the substance of your work. You measure success by results, not recognition, and you let your work speak for itself.
- You're energized by complexity and ambiguity: You enjoy tackling problems that don't come with a playbook. You're comfortable building from scratch, iterating as you go, and collaborating to shape the best path forward.
- You seek out feedback: You see directness as respect, not criticism. You actively seek input, sit with hard truths, and use feedback as fuel for improvement.
- Small businesses are why we're here: Relay exists to help them thrive -- and that mission has to resonate with you.
