Full Job Description
Working with the director of pharmacy the Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible for the pharmacy operations at Mount Auburn Hospital. This person assists the Director of Pharmacy with the interviewing, hiring, orientation, disciplining and ongoing training of all pharmacy staff as well as maintaining a state of regulatory preparedness required by Joint Commission, the Board of Pharmacy and other regulatory and accreditation agencies. The Pharmacy Operations Manager oversees the day to day operations to assure best practices, quality standards, regulatory requirements and Mount Auburn Hospital policies and Procedures are followed. Pharmacy policies are developed, implemented, and administered in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy. Working with the Director of Pharmacy activities are planned and directed, including but not limited to the following: quality and safety, regulatory compliance, employment, training, competency and development, employee discipline and grievance resolution, decentralized clinical and centralized technical pharmacy practices, and performance improvement programs. Job Description: ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to): • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with all applicable federal, state, and regulatory standards (e.g., Board of Pharmacy, DEA, FDA, USP, Joint Commission). • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to support safe, effective, and compliant medication-use practices. • Oversee controlled substance management, including diversion prevention programs, auditing, and regulatory compliance. • Manage pharmacy staffing and scheduling, ensuring appropriate coverage to meet patient care and operational needs. • Supervise, train, evaluate, and support professional development of pharmacists and pharmacy personnel. • Direct medication-use processes, including procurement, dispensing, distribution systems, and investigational drug services. • Lead quality improvement and medication safety initiatives, including review of medication events and development of corrective actions. • Oversee pharmacy information systems and collaborate with IT to optimize system functionality (e.g., EPIC, automation). • Manage pharmacy financial performance, including budgeting, inventory control, cost containment, and drug utilization. • Collaborate across disciplines and participate in hospital committees to advance formulary management, regulatory readiness, and patient care outcomes. • Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. Doctoral degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred. • 3-5 years of hospital pharmacy experience required. • Current Massachusetts Pharmacist License in good standing required. • Prior supervisory or management experience, PGY-1 residency, administrative residency, or Advanced degree (MBA, MHA, MPH) preferred. • Current Massachusetts Pharmacist License in good standing required. • Pharmacy Board Certification preferred. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. • Awareness of occasional exposure to infectious disease and to possible carcinogenic, mutagenic, and sensitizing medications. Minimal exposure to caustic agents, acids, and fumes. Pay Range: $139,360.00 USD - $176,742.00 USD The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
