Join the University of Chicago Medicine as a Medical Staff Services and CVO Manager

The Medical Staff Services and CVO Manager provide leadership and organizes resources to enable the institution to achieve substantial compliance with accreditation standards related to the UCMC, NWI and NWI ASC Medical Staff and CVO. Ensures that activities of the UCMC Medical Staff Office and CVO are conducted in a manner consistent with accreditation standards, the mission of the University of Chicago Medical Center, and established medical center policies and procedures. Works with the UCMC Medical Staff Office in support of the Medical Staff Officers activities with specific attention to credentialing and policy and procedure review. Responsibilities for planning, organizing, leading, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating department functions at the administrative level including day-to-day fiscal management. Manages the medical staff credentialing program and supports the Medical Staff Organization function by:
  • Oversight of the processing of applications for appointment and reappointment
  • Facilitating and supporting credentialing and privileging committees
  • Serving as liaison and problem solver to clinical department administrative and practice plan staffs and physicians
  • Overseeing and participating in external audits and surveys
  • Designing and preparing computer database reports, statistics, rosters, etc. for routine and special requests.


As the Manager of the credentialing program, the incumbent must ensure the integrity and efficiency of the credentialing and privileging program.

Essential Job Functions
  • Manages the staff along with the day-to-day activities of the UCMC Medical Staff Office and CVO
  • Provides direction, advice, and guidance to officers and hospital management in policy interpretation and related procedures
  • Provides expertise to clinical and administrative departments conducting credentialing activities
  • Facilitates the timely and effective resolution of unique challenges and problems while ensuring the provision of high quality, professional service to all customers
  • Manages the credentialing program to maximize timely appointment of qualified applicants for medical staff membership and/or privileges or reappraisal/renewal in compliance with all aspects of accreditation standards, federal and state laws and regulations, and UChicago Medicine requirements
  • Manages aggregate primary source verifications and other key indicators such as clinical quality, malpractice history, disciplinary actions, etc. for use in decision-making.
  • Participates in meetings of various committees, task forces, and ad hoc groups including but not limited to the UCMC Credentials Committee
  • Directs provision of delegated credentialing services to UCMC
  • Oversees coordinated educational and informational activities for clinical and administrative departments concerning credentialing regulatory requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Work Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in health care administration or related field
  • Background at a professional level in an academic medical center.
  • Minimum 5 - 8 years' experience as Medical Staff Organization professional.
  • Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) and Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS), or previous experience in Privileging and Credentialing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to work effectively with Medical Staff Leadership and UCMC administrative staff management in clinical departments, external regulatory and government agencies, State Licensing agencies, National Practitioner Databank, in house attorneys, and other physicians.
  • Familiar with the Joint Commission (TJC) and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) requirements and with principles of Medical Staff Services Administration.
  • Contact with others daily requires a high level of service orientation
