Job purpose

The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer focus is managing asset health, minimizing

downtime, and optimizing performance across an asset's lifecycle. The role is proactive

and analytical, often involving collaboration across different departments.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance (PM) and condition-based/predictive maintenance (PdM) programs to ensure equipment availability and longevity.
  • Lead and participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and failure modes and effects analysis to diagnose equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Monitor and analyze reliability data, such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness, Mean Time Between Failures, and production losses, to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide engineering expertise for the repair, alteration and troubleshooting of critical mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations, including those related to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Work with project engineering teams to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new installations are considered during design, procurement, and commissioning stages.
  • Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting support to maintenance and operations teams, and train staff on reliability best practices and new protocols.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering mechanical, electrical or similar engineering field preferred
  • 10+ years of Manufacturing Experience as a Reliability Engineer, Plant Engineer, or Maintenance Engineer
  • Ability to develop designs and create engineering drawings using CAD software • Ability to read technical drawings
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with high-speed and/or custom automation processes for assembly and machine tending.
  • Demonstrated understanding of equipment reliability, preventive/predictive maintenance, lubrication best practices, and precision maintenance techniques.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with PLC Programming on platforms such as Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron, Siemens, etc.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and NEC regulations/standards.
  • Must be a user/implementer of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Must be capable of working flexible hours to accommodate 24/7 manufacturing operation, including weekends, and on-call as needed
  • Experience in Web Converting, Paper/PulpConverting, or similar high-speed, rotating equipment environment preferred.


Supervisory Responsibilities

While there are no direct reports for this position, the Maintenance & Reliability Engineer may be responsible to oversee and direct the work of technicians and operations personnel during the implementation of projects and work activities.

The employee may have to reach in odd position and/or lie down. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to wear respiratory protection as needed in close proximity to solvents. A Hazmat physical is required for this position.

Safety Requirements

Due to the nature of the work performed in this job, the employee is required to wear safety glasses and ANSII approved steel or composite toed footwear. Safety gloves must be worn when necessary and a respirator is required in areas of Coating department.
