The manager develops the maintenance team, drives continuous improvement, and builds a proactive maintenance culture focused on equipment reliability and operational excellence. Relocation assistance is available.
Success in this role is measured by preventing breakdowns, not just fixing them. The manager reduces downtime, strengthens preventive maintenance and CMMS discipline, manages budgets, spare parts, and vendors, and leads capital projects, working closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Safety to keep the plant performing at its best.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Team Leadership
• Lead, coach, and develop the maintenance team to build a proactive, accountable maintenance culture.
• Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Safety to improve overall plant performance.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and audit-ready facility in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Reliability & Maintenance Programs
• Improve equipment reliability by reducing recurring failures and unplanned downtime.
• Develop, manage, and improve preventive maintenance programs.
• Use Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to eliminate repeat equipment failures.
• Oversee the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for accurate work orders, labor tracking, and maintenance history.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, automation, and process control issues.
• Support and maintain Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other industrial automation systems.
Budget, Parts & Projects
• Manage maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, and vendor relationships to control costs and support reliability.
• Lead capital improvement projects and equipment installations, and coordinate contractor activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
First-Year Performance Goals
• Reduce reactive maintenance so unplanned work is 15% or less of total maintenance labor, through stronger planning, scheduling, and preventive maintenance.
• Increase equipment uptime and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) across processing, filling, and packaging.
• Maintain maintenance labor utilization of 90% or greater while shifting the team from reactive repairs to planned work.
• Achieve and sustain 95% or better on-time completion of preventive maintenance.
• Establish CMMS discipline with 95% or better work-order accuracy, including complete labor, parts, and failure reporting and timely close-out.
• Maintain 98% or better spare parts inventory accuracy, reduce shrink, optimize min/max levels, and lower parts consumption through improved reliability.
• Build a highly skilled team through structured training and cross-training, reducing reliance on outside contractors for routine maintenance.
• Implement permanent corrective actions for repeat equipment failures.
