Linux Engineer for a on-site opportunity for candidates in Washington D.C. or Columbia, SC. Candidate will provide advanced Linux engineering and operational support for a secure, mission-critical enterprise environment supporting federal applications and infrastructure. The role will focus on RHEL administration, automation, system hardening, modernization, cloud integration, troubleshooting, and maintaining reliable and compliant Linux platforms.
Required Qualifications of the Linux Engineer:- Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to provide sponsorship or work with Third-Party agencies.
- 8-10+ years of professional Linux engineering experience in enterprise or federal environments.
- Advanced hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7/8/9).
- Strong Bash scripting skills and proficiency with at least one additional scripting or programming language, preferably Python.
- Hands-on experience with Ansible and Infrastructure-as-Code technologies.
- Experience administering and supporting Linux systems across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Working knowledge of virtualization technologies, containers, and cloud computing.
- Experience with Linux security hardening, vulnerability remediation, patching, and system performance optimization.
- Knowledge of federal cybersecurity and compliance frameworks, including FISMA, NIST 800-53, and STIGs.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust designation and potentially a Secret security clearance, as required.
Preferred Skills/Experience of the Linux Engineer:- Experience with Terraform or comparable Infrastructure-as-Code platforms.
- Experience with AWS GovCloud and/or Azure Government.
- VMware administration and virtualization experience.
- Linux workload migration and cloud modernization experience.
- Experience supporting enterprise applications, web services, databases, and middleware on Linux platforms.
- Tier 3 production support, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning experience.
- Familiarity with Department of Justice or other federal IT environments.
Responsibilities of the Linux Engineer:- Design, deploy, configure, administer, and maintain enterprise Linux servers across physical, virtualized, and cloud environments.
- Implement and maintain secure Linux configurations aligned with federal cybersecurity requirements, including applicable NIST, STIG, and organizational standards.
- Manage operating system patching, kernel updates, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and performance optimization.
- Develop automation using Bash, Python, Ansible, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools to improve consistency and operational efficiency.
- Support cloud adoption and modernization initiatives, including deployment and migration of Linux workloads within government cloud environments.
- Provide Tier 3 engineering support through advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, incident resolution, system optimization, documentation, and technical recommendations.
Work Location: Onsite position available in Columbia, South Carolina or the Washington, D.C. area.
