ResponsibilitiesPeraton is seeking a qualified candidate who will become part of Peraton’s Department of State (DoS) Diplomatic Security Cyber Mission (DSCM) program providing leading cyber and technology security experience to enable innovative, effective, and secure business processes. Peraton’s DSCM program encompasses technical, engineering, data analytics, cyber security, management, operational, logistical, and administrative support to aid and advise DoS Cyber & Technology Security (CTS) Directorate. This includes protecting a global cyber infrastructure comprising networks, systems, information, and mobile devices all while identifying and responding to cyber risks and threats. Those supporting Peraton’s DSCM program strive to leverage their expert knowledge and propose creative solutions to real-world cybersecurity challenges.
Location: Beltsville, MD.
What you’ll do:
- Provide Linux and cyber tools administration and Tier 2 support across a range of systems spread globally.
- Maintain Ansible playbooks for rapid deployment of updated containers.
- Maintain and leverage Satellite server for distributed RHEL patching.
- Develop and maintain process documentation regarding Linux administration and patching.
- Assist in updating of IDS definitions.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience; 3 years with Masters. An additional 4 years of experience may be substituted in lieu of the bachelor's degree requirement.
- Must either possess and maintain, or obtain prior to start date, one of the following professional certifications:
- CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSEP, CISSP, Security+ CE, CySA+, PPDA, Agile IC, SNOW App Dev.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7, 8, and 9 — hands-on administration, patching, and deployment from scratch; working experience with RHEL 9 environments specifically required
- Ansible — ability to both run and write/modify playbooks for automated deployment and configuration
- Red Hat Satellite — experience managing distributed RHEL patching at scale
- Bash scripting — must be able to author basic-to-intermediate scripts, not just execute them
- DISA STIGs / system hardening — practical experience applying security configurations
- SCAP tools — familiarity with scanning and compliance validation
- IDS/security tooling — basic experience with definition updates or signature management
- Process documentation — ability to write and maintain clear technical procedures
- U.S. citizenship and an active Secret security clearance to start.
Desired Qualifications
- Basic networking knowledge — OSI model, firewalls, switches/routers
- VMware or equivalent virtualization — creating and managing VMs
- Basic hardware troubleshooting experience
Target Salary Range$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
