This is a remote role open to any location in continental US.
The Life Underwriting Auditor will conduct detailed audits of underwriting initiatives and processes, evaluate the quality and consistency of decisions, and provide actionable insights that help maintain alignment with pricing, mortality assumptions, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct post issue audits and monitoring of new underwriting initiatives to assess technical accuracy, guideline adherence, quality of underwriter decisioning.
- Review underwriting decisions for medical, financial, and operational soundness, ensuring they align with company guidelines, risk appetite, and mortality assumptions.
- Identify material errors, trends, and themes in audit results and prepare clear, structured reports and recommendations for management.
- Collaborate with Underwriting Management and Risk Management to develop and monitor Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) and track remediation progress.
- Support the ongoing enhancement of the Underwriting Risk Control Framework, including control design, key risk indicators (KRIs), and governance standards.
- Partner with the Training & Development team to translate audit findings into targeted training, coaching, and guideline clarifications.
- Provide input into innovation initiatives (e.g., new tools, rules engines, GenAI solutions) by testing and evaluating their impact on underwriting quality and risk.
- Assist with the design and execution of Targeted audits for Underwriting Innovation initiatives.
- Ensure audit documentation is complete, accurate, and suitable for internal audit, governance committees, and regulatory review.
- Contribute to ongoing continuous improvement, helping to refine audit frameworks, metrics, and reporting.
Qualifications
Required:
- Several years (typically 5+ years) of experience in life insurance underwriting, with proven expertise in medical and financial underwriting.
- Strong understanding of life insurance products, underwriting guidelines, and risk selection principles.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex medical and financial information and assess risk appropriately.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to identify patterns and root causes in audit findings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and constructively to underwriters and leadership.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion, particularly in handling sensitive information.
Preferred:
- Experience in an audit, quality assurance, or risk management capacity within life underwriting.
- Familiarity with governance frameworks, risk controls, and regulatory expectations related to underwriting.
- Comfort working with data (e.g., Excel, BI tools) to analyze audit results and trends.
- Professional designations such as ALU, FALU, FLMI or equivalent.

Salary range is expected to be between
$92,475.00 USD - $160,290.00 USD
Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
