Job Description

As Legal Counsel, you'll provide legal guidance and strategic support across a broad range of business activities, including contract negotiation, compliance, litigation management, insurance law, corporate governance, and regulatory obligations. You'll work closely with business leaders to deliver creative legal solutions that drive business results while managing legal risks.

 

What does your typical day look like?

  • Manage and provide legal oversight for coverage complaints, HR disputes, litigation matters, settlements, and insurance-related legal issues.
  • Offer legal guidance to internal teams on complex coverage, employment, compliance, and regulatory matters.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and administer a wide range of commercial, supplier, and corporate agreements.
  • Support the business on HR, immigration, global mobility, restructuring, and workforce-related legal matters.
  • Oversee litigation reporting, dispute resolution, and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage intellectual property, licensing obligations, trademark registrations, corporate insurance renewals, and related legal documentation.
  • Lead and maintain governance and compliance committees, ensuring adherence to legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide broad legal support to the business and Legal Department through research, document review, compliance initiatives, corporate projects, and strategic legal advice.
  • This position is based in our Sherbrooke office and follows a hybrid work model, with a required on-site presence of four (4) days per week.

 

What skills and experience are we looking for?              

  • University degree in Law from recognized University.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Licensed with the Quebec Bar.
  • Licensed with Common Law degree is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and French.
  • Strong knowledge of contracts, insurance, labour (Quebec and Ontario), corporate, immigration, privacy, and regulatory matters.
  • Experience working in a law firm and drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of commercial and corporate agreements.
  • Demonstrated experience managing litigation, employment-related matters, and legal issues affecting Canadian and international businesses.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated professional with exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with diverse stakeholders and subject matter experts.
