Lean Continuous Improvement Manager

Position Overview

The Lean Continuous Improvement manager is responsible for championing lean and CI efforts by applying continuous improvement skills to streamline manufacturing and process activities, thereby reducing time and cost throughout the supply chain. The primary responsibility of this position is the management and execution of a relentless Continuous Improvement program centered on, but not limited to the following key methodologies: LEAN manufacturing, Six Sigma, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

Position Responsibilities
  • Promote Safety as the Number One priority of all OMG employees.
  • Apply the concepts of Lean Manufacturing (5S, error-proofing, value stream mapping, Single Minute Exchange of Dies etc.) Six Sigma (DMAIC) and Continuous Improvement tools to eliminate waste, reduce process variability and improve processes throughout OMG.
  • Work with leadership and cross-functional teams to create Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Roadmaps to drive Lean thinking for Strategic Initiatives and other opportunities, maintaining visibility and supporting accountability for these tools.
  • Advocate and influence Lean thinking for process, product, and design manufacturability in New Product Development processes.
  • Champion Lean Management Systems at all levels of the organization including robust employee engagement and Gemba processes, problem escalation and process accountability.
  • Develop and champion lean training, application, and knowledge enhancing programs from associate basics through executive leadership. This training and Gemba mentoring include lean tools inclusive but not limited to Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Visual Management, Identification of Waste, Daily Management/Gemba, Single-Minute Exchange of Dies, Kanban, Total Productive Maintenance, etc.
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct Kaizen improvement events with an emphasis on root cause analysis, elimination of waste and solid financial payback.
  • Manage and implement process control, variability reduction and standard work initiatives in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Team.
  • Direct and engage strategic partners in Lean transformation projects and serve as the key driving force to deliver on strategies.
  • Create an internal network of lead leaders and trainers via development plans including training and mentoring problem-solving and scientific thinking approaches, developing capabilities, ownership, accountability, and sustainability.
  • Develop, track and report on all metrics associated with Lean and Continuous Improvement activities, including financial impact, to Leadership.


Position Requirements
  • BS in Business or Engineering (Industrial, Chemical or Manufacturing) preferred.
  • 5-10 years' experience in the practice of Lean, Six Sigma and/or other improvement tools and methodologies with demonstrated results required.
  • Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt), SME/AME Lean Certification, ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and/or ASQ Manager of Quality Organizational Excellence preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing and/or logistics environment preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to persuade others and the ability to present information to all levels in an organization.
  • Demonstrated patterns of continued personal growth and development and the ability to help others embrace change.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Lean and Six Sigma tools (Value Stream Mapping, Just-in-Time, Demand Flow, 5S, Visual Management, Total Productive Maintenance, Standard Work, SMED, Kaizen, DMAIC, SPC, DOE and Statistical Hypothesis Testing).
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, creative, innovative and people-oriented self-starter with strong management skills required along with strong PC application skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Minitab etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships at all levels.
  • Positive attitude, good judgement and excellent time management skills.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator across departments.
  • Ability to encourage continuous learning and skill development.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle while maintaining focus on safe driving and avoiding all distractions when behind the wheel, especially cell phones.
  • Ability to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms; and occasionally lift/push/pull/carry up to 50 pounds.
