Job Description:

The Project Engineer (PE) serves as the technical lead for assigned programs and is entrusted by Engineering Leadership with responsibility and authority to drive all engineering execution activities. Working in close partnership with the Program Manager (PM), the PE ensures that engineering efforts remain aligned with program objectives, technical requirements, budget, and schedule.

Key responsibilities include:
• Ensuring adherence to the defined technical scope
• Managing engineering execution to remain within approved budgets
• Maintaining alignment with the overall program schedule
• Lead the development of technical proposals for new projects and contracts.

In this role, Engineering Functional Task Leaders (including Systems, Software, Aeronautical, Specialty, Logistics, and Technical Publications) take direction from the PE for all program-specific activities. The PE collaborates with Functional Managers to track Earned Value (EV) through the Labor Tracking System (LTS), ensuring consistency between functional performance and overall program metrics.

Beyond core engineering functions, the PE is accountable for broader technical performance across the full program lifecycle. This includes ensuring compliance, certification, and seamless integration with manufacturing, operations, and ODA/FAA processes. PEs also serve as a key technical interface with customers, engaging in every phase of the program-from initial planning through delivery and sustainment. Project Engineers are a key technical interface to Customers and have the responsibility and opportunity to interact at every phase of the program lifecycle.

Travel may be required up to 20% based on business needs.Essential Functions:
  • Lead and communicate effectively with a diverse engineering and production team, consisting of multiple engineering disciplines to develop solutions that meet contractual requirements
  • Interpreting statement of work requirements into engineering direction for execution
  • Prepare Engineering proposal briefings and support other engineering functions in the development of their bids.
  • Project planning and guidance within scope, schedule and budget
  • Writing and delivering presentations on product status at program reviews
  • Review, approve and sign off on technical contractual deliverables to the customer.
  • Broad understanding of engineering processes and policies
  • Serve as the Technical Point of Contact for the Technical Evaluation of proposals with the customer
  • Prepare effective presentations to communicate technical information to the customer and senior leadership
  • Work projects across all phases of the contract (requirements, design, manufacturing, integration and testing)
  • Subcontractor Management
  • Aircraft modification and certification

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of relevant prior experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant prior experience.
  • Experience with and/or working knowledge of preparing a proposal, reviewing bids and supporting the proposal through submission and customer technical evaluation.
  • Experience with and working knowledge of aircraft systems, aircraft maintenance, aircraft modification and aircraft sustainment.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret

Preferred Additional Skills:
  • Experience working successfully in a team environment
  • Interpreting statement of work requirements into engineering direction for execution
  • Aircraft certification to include Military Commercial Derivative Aircraft, FAA Supplemental Type certification, and Military Airworthiness certification.
  • Ground, aircraft, space or shipborne mission system integration expertise
  • Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Systems experience
  • Requirements Verification and Validation
  • Aeronautical Engineering (electrical, structural, mechanical, stress, mass properties, aerodynamics, etc.)
  • Cost, Estimating, CAM (Control Account Management), and/or EVM (Earned Value Management) experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction using continuous problem solving
  • System troubleshooting and field support
  • Interacting with flightline operations personnel for testing and systems calibration
