We're looking for an experienced
Lead Process Engineer to join our Toronto office, bringing strong technical expertise, leadership, and a collaborative approach to project delivery.
In this role, you'll lead process engineering activities across a diverse portfolio of projects, from early-stage studies (PEA, PFS and FS) and trade-off evaluations through to basic engineering, detailed design and execution-phase projects. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients, providing technical direction, developing practical and innovative solutions, and helping deliver successful project outcomes.
About the role - Lead process engineering activities across mining and mineral processing studies and projects, from early-stage studies (PEA, PFS and FS) through basic engineering, detailed design and project execution.
- Take ownership of process engineering scope, deliverables, schedules and budgets, ensuring designs are technically sound, fit for purpose, and meet project quality and safety requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to process engineers, reviewing deliverables and guiding the team to deliver practical, innovative and cost-effective solutions.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients on process engineering matters, leading technical discussions, design reviews and presentations.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Study Managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to coordinate activities, resolve technical challenges and support successful project delivery.
- Lead the development and review of key process engineering deliverables, including design criteria, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), mass and energy balances, and equipment specifications.
- Lead process evaluations, trade-off studies and process safety reviews, including HAZOP and LOPA, identifying technical risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to technical sections of regulatory and disclosure reports, including NI 43-101 and S-K 1300 reports, as applicable.
- Support proposal development, scope definition, engineering estimates and business development activities, including client presentations.
- Collaborate with Ausenco's global Process Engineering team to share knowledge, best practices and innovative approaches to mineral processing design.
About you - Bachelor's degree in Mineral Processing, Extractive Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in mineral processing engineering, including front-end studies, basic engineering and detailed design.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or registration in another Canadian province with the ability to obtain Ontario licensure.
- Demonstrated experience leading process engineering teams and deliverables on multidisciplinary mining projects, ideally within an engineering consulting environment.
- Strong technical expertise in one or more of the following: comminution, flotation, pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, ion exchange (IX), solvent extraction (SX), and solid-liquid separation or filtration.
- Experience across a range of mineral commodities, including critical minerals, precious metals, base metals and battery metals.
- Strong technical judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate alternatives, challenge assumptions and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to lead client discussions, present technical recommendations and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with metallurgical process simulation software such as METSIM, SysCAD or Aspen Plus.
- Field experience in construction, commissioning or plant operations would be an asset, along with a willingness to travel as required.
