Job DescriptionWe are looking for a
Lead AI Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will apply your knowledge and experience to extract and convey actionable insights at NORAD and USNORTHCOM Office of the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO). As the Lead AI Engineer, you will design and deliver hardened data pipelines and analyses to inform ongoing operations and shape strategic roadmaps. You will serve as the cross-functional bridge between multiple engineering and client leadership teams, partnering closely with Nyla data scientists on the CAIO team to structure data science workflows and deliver high-consequence operational tools that solve critical mission challenges!
The annual base salary range for this role is $200,000-$270,000 (USD) , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
Required SkillsProgramming & Data Science Tools: Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript. Experience developing SQL scripts and using Gitlab/Git for Source Code Management (SCM)
- Enterprise Data Platform Management & Development: Experience in Palantir Foundry and other enterprise DoW tools (Databricks, Power Platform, GenAI.mil) automating manual workflows and building operator-employed user-facing apps.
- GenAI & Agentic Workflows: Familiar with designing apps that leverage LLMs, tailored reasoning models, and agentic workflows. Experience engineering AI solutions with robust traceability and explainability.
- Data Visualization & UI/UX Design: Ability to design impactful data visualizations and intuitive user-facing apps that clearly communicate insights from multiple enterprise datasets and enable a seamless user experience.
- Data Engineering and Governance: Familiar with developing and maintaining data pipelines (including cross-domain) and ensuring data health and appropriate user access. Well-versed in driving data integration of key customer and external datasets.
Education & Experience- Experience: 8+ years of experience delivering data and AI solutions for DoW (particularly at Combatant Commands) or IC customers
- Education: Master's Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, AI Engineering or a related field.
Desired Skills- Demonstrated history of delivering high-consequence mission-enabling tools and solving operational road blocks.
- Implementing AI solutions that go beyond basic LLM chat interfaces, such as integrating custom machine learning models or augmenting existing models with new data.
- Experience leading engineers on a technical delivery team, including requirements decomposition and ticket prioritization in a system such as Atlassian Jira
