Laboratory Manager - Critical Care Lab

Full-time / 40 hours per week

Akron City Campus

Eligible for a $12,000 hire on incentive

Summary:
Plans, organizes and evaluates the activities both operational and technical for the assigned areas (e.g., Blood Bank, Critical Care/Core Lab, Cytology, Histology, Microbiology, Toxicology, and Special Procedures) on several campuses when assigned and applicable. Oversees employee management, technical and quality assurance programs. Researches patient service issues, developing and implementing corrective measures as needed. Assists in the development and administration of and ensures compliance with federal, state, departmental and hospital policies rules and regulations to include all certifying, regulatory agencies for laboratory practice that are applicable; i.e. CAP and The Joint Commission. Develops and implements performance improvement initiatives to include assessing outcomes and development of action plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Formal Education Required:
a. Bachelor of Science degree listing one of the required areas of study, as applicable (Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Cytotechnology) if degree does not list area of study transcripts must be submitted for equivalency evaluation.
i. Acceptable transcripts must include:
1. At least 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology)
2. At least 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry)
b. Certification/registry as an MLT/MT/MLS generalist, Cytotechnologist, or Histotechnologist with an accredited recognized agency or organization (e.g. ASCP)

2. Experience & Training Required:
a. Five (5) years related professional experience
b. Two (2) years of Supervisory or increasingly responsible experience that has provided leadership skills
c. Supervisor/Senior Technologist experience within the last the last two (2) years is preferred

3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Excellent communication , leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills
b. Ability to work well within a team environment by accepting and offering honest and constructive feedback, supporting team goals, and encouraging fellow team members
c. Competency in all relevant technical areas within scope of the particular management role
d. Knowledge of use of laboratory information systems
e. Ability to be objective and open-minded, self-directed in executing responsibilities within a team structure
f. Ability to work within the institutional vision and be available to support customer requirements for quality patient care
g. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with patients/customers with the understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity

5. Level of Physical Demands:
a. Light: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force continuously.

$41.15/hr - $61.72/hr

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members when determining offers. Please keep in mind that the range that is listed is the full base salary range. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical.
