Laboratory DirectorHoward County Medical Center invites applications for the position of Laboratory Director at its location in St. Paul, Nebraska. The Laboratory Director directs the budgetary, purchasing, staffing and related aspects of laboratory work, and is responsible for directing the technical activities of assigned clinical laboratory areas in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of Howard County Medical Center.
Essential Job Functions- Directs daily department operations, workflow, policies, procedures, goals, and coordination with other departments. Monitors service and quality levels, resolves operational issues, and implements improvements as needed.
- Leads employee relations efforts that support communication, recognition, retention, and a positive work environment. Provides timely feedback, addresses concerns, applies policies consistently, coordinates with administration and HR, and completes staff performance appraisals.
- Recruits, orients, trains, and develops qualified department staff in accordance with established practices. Maintains job descriptions and verifies required licenses and certifications while supporting continuing education.
- Directs departmental financial operations, including budgets, expenses, variances, strategic planning, timekeeping, and reporting. Participates in annual budget planning and works with vendors and management to secure best-value purchases.
- Performs laboratory testing and phlebotomy in accordance with Laboratory policy, including microscopic, chemical, bacteriological, and hematological procedures. Completes quality-control documentation and processes physician orders as required.
- Accurately records patient results in the Laboratory Information System and reports them to medical providers as required. Troubleshoots laboratory equipment issues.
- Collaborates effectively with coworkers, supervisors, departments, patients, families, and business partners to support safe, high-quality service. Uses and promotes TeamSTEPPS tools, responds constructively to feedback, and takes initiative on new or difficult assignments.
- Maintains a professional, dependable approach and completes work accurately and on time. Pursues ongoing education and performance improvement to strengthen job knowledge and effectiveness.
- Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as Howard County Medical Center policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:- Bachelor's degree in medical technology
- Registered Medical Technologist by the Board of Registry of the American Clinical pathologists or equivalent certification of recognized national or state agency
- Three to five years' general laboratory experience
- One to three years of supervisory experience
- Must be available to take a call and respond within 30 minutes
