Job Description:IT QUALITY ASSURANCE SR MANAGER
You will lead a team of 50 testers supporting a large-scale, multitier application, and own the roadmap that carries the organization from predominantly manual testing to a scalable, automation-first practice. This is a hands-on leadership role working closely with the client, program leadership, and peer teams to promote quality, service, teamwork, growth, and cost-effective resource management. You should be a strong collaborator who can work across a matrixed program.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN & DELIVERArchitect the Automation Transformation- Propose, design, and execute a comprehensive, phased roadmap to transition a 50-person QA organization from predominantly manual testing to a scalable, automation-first SDET model, significantly reducing testing cycle times and operational costs.
Hands-On Technical Execution- Serve as the ultimate technical authority for QA tooling and architecture.
- Evaluate, select, and integrate modern automation frameworks, build CI/CD pipeline integrations, and directly resolve complex architectural blockers to enable the team.
Drive Engineering Culture & Upskilling- Lead a massive cultural shift.
- Design and implement a rigorous upskilling program to transition manual functional testers into highly capable automation engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence.
Own Executive-Level Quality Metrics- Establish baseline metrics and drive relentless improvement across key engineering KPIs (e.g., test execution time, automated coverage of critical business flows, defect escape rate).
- Translate these technical metrics into tangible business outcomes for program leadership and state health exchange stakeholders.
Client & Stakeholder Partnership- Act as the definitive voice of quality for the program.
- Build unshakeable trust with client counterparts, ensuring quality risk is communicated clearly, backed by data, and utilized to drive better product decisions rather than just managing schedules.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEEDRequired Qualifications:- 10+ years of progressive software engineering and quality assurance experience, with a proven track record of moving from hands-on technical contributor to senior leadership.
- 5+ years of experience leading QA organizations of 40+ resources, with direct accountability for hiring, performance management, and organizational design.
- Demonstrable experience architecting and executing a large-scale manual-to-automation transformation. Must be able to speak deeply to the technical framework design, ROI analysis, and change management strategies used.
- Deep, hands-on expertise with modern automation tooling, CI/CD pipeline integration, and testing large-scale, multi-tier, service-oriented architectures.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience evaluating and implementing GenAI tooling to accelerate test script generation, optimize test data management (including synthetic data for PHI/PII), and improve overall QA efficiency.
- Prior experience in large-scale government or healthcare domains, with a strong understanding of vendor-client dynamics and compliance-heavy environments.
- Familiarity with modern automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress) and shift-left API testing strategies.
- Experience with traditional enterprise stacks, including Java, Jira, GitHub, and DB2 (or similar) on large-scale applications.
- Deep knowledge of DORA metrics (Deployment Frequency, Lead Time for Changes, Change Failure Rate) and establishing engineering benchmarks.
