Missions/Main Duties

The IT Architect is responsible for designing, maintaining, and evolving the organization’s technology architecture to support business objectives, operational efficiency, cybersecurity, and long-term scalability. The role ensures that IT systems, applications, infrastructure, and integrations are aligned with enterprise standards and support SYSTRA Canada’s operational and strategic needs.

 

The IT Architect works closely with business stakeholders, project managers, cybersecurity specialists, infrastructure teams, and external vendors to define architecture roadmaps and deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing solutions.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Define and maintain enterprise, solution, application, data, and infrastructure architecture principles, standards, and best practices.
  • Design end-to-end IT solutions that support business processes, digital transformation initiatives, and operational requirements.
  • Assess current systems and recommend improvements, modernization opportunities, and technology roadmaps.
  • Ensure the interoperability, scalability, security, and resilience of IT systems and platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate business needs into technical architecture and solution designs.
  • Provide technical leadership during project planning, solution evaluation, implementation, and post-deployment review.
  • Evaluate new technologies, software, cloud services, and vendor solutions to support innovation and efficiency.
  • Establish architecture governance processes and ensure compliance with corporate policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support cybersecurity by integrating secure-by-design principles into all architecture decisions.
  • Produce and maintain architecture documentation, including diagrams, standards, decision logs, and technical specifications.
  • Participate in budgeting and planning activities related to infrastructure, systems evolution, and technology investments.
  • Mentor technical teams and provide guidance on architecture frameworks, tools, and implementation approaches.
Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. A master’s degree is considered an asset.

 

Years of experience: Minimum of 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in IT, including at least 3 to 5 years in an architecture role involving enterprise, solution, cloud, infrastructure, or application architecture.

 

Technical competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture, solution architecture, systems integration, and infrastructure design.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Good understanding of networking, servers, storage, virtualization, databases, and cybersecurity principles.
  • Proficiency in architecture frameworks and methodologies such as TOGAF, Zachman, or similar.
  • Experience with enterprise applications, APIs, middleware, SaaS platforms, and hybrid environments.
  • Knowledge of IT governance, risk management, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, automation, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Ability to create architecture diagrams, technical documentation, and solution blueprints.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance strategic vision and operational realities.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*
