Overview

AtkinsRéalis is expanding its national Fire Protection team and is looking for an Intermediate Fire Protection Specialist to support a growing portfolio of projects across Canada. Our team delivers fire protection engineering services for complex infrastructure, industrial, institutional, nuclear, defence, rail, and critical facility projects.

In this role, you will help prepare practical fire protection designs, technical reports, drawings, specifications, calculations, and site support documentation. You will work closely with experienced fire protection engineers, designers, clients, and multidisciplinary project teams to help deliver clear, code-compliant solutions from design through construction, testing, and commissioning.

Your role

  • Prepare fire suppression and fire alarm design drawings, specifications, calculations, and supporting technical documentation.

  • Develop technical reports, studies, system narratives, and fire protection engineering assessments.

  • Participate in field reviews, inspections, on-site engineering testing, commissioning, and construction-phase support.

  • Coordinate fire protection requirements with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, process, and other engineering disciplines.

  • Support client discussions, project meetings, and technical decisions with clear communication and sound engineering judgement.

  • Collaborate with senior specialists and multidisciplinary teams to solve complex fire protection challenges.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement, quality deliverables, and knowledge sharing within the national fire protection practice.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.

  • P. Eng., C.E.T., fire protection certification, CAN/ULC-S1001 training, or related professional credentials are assets, but not required.

  • Approximately 2-5 years of experience in fire protection engineering, fire alarm, suppression, life safety, or related consulting/design work.

  • Experience preparing technical reports, drawings, specifications, calculations, or design documentation with guidance from senior team members.

  • Experience in nuclear, defence, rail, industrial, or high-reliability project environments is an asset.

  • Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, AutoSprink RVT, HydraCAD, or similar design tools is an asset.

  • Interest in developing practical expertise in Canadian building codes, fire codes, and standards such as NBCC, NFCC, NFPA, CSA, and ULC.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to clients, project teams, and non-specialists.

  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain federal security clearance, where required by project assignments.

  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel occasionally for site work or project needs.

Additional information

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $80,000 - $100,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
