Full Job Description
Position Overview

We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer with strong experience in power-island systems and engineering deliverables development from a project-execution standpoint. This role is not primarily a PLC programming or networking position - it is an engineering role focused on specifications, design packages, documentation, and technical oversight for major power-plant equipment.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with GTG, HRSG, ACC, Steam Turbines, packaged equipment, and GE/Baker Hughes Mark VI controls, along with familiarity in ASME Code 31.1 and SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver engineering documentation including instrument specifications, control narratives, logic diagrams, loop sheets, cause-and-effect matrices, and project technical packages
  • Provide I&C engineering support for Gas Turbine Generators (GTG), Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG), Air-Cooled Condensers (ACC), Steam Turbines, and associated balance-of-plant systems
  • Review vendor documentation for packaged equipment and ensure proper integration into plant control systems
  • Support project teams with technical oversight, design reviews, and coordination with EPCs, OEMs, and internal engineering groups
  • Ensure compliance with ASME Code 31.1 Power Piping, plant standards, and project specifications
  • Utilize SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) for instrument index management, loop development, and deliverable control
  • Provide engineering support during commissioning and startup (documentation, punch-list resolution, technical clarification)
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and technical evaluations related to instrumentation and control systems
  • Lead or support engineering deliverables for upgrades, retrofits, and reliability improvements across the power island

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of I&C engineering experience in power generation, combined-cycle, or industrial energy environments
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • GTG, HRSG, ACC, Steam Turbines
    • GE/Baker Hughes Mark VI / Mark VIe control systems
    • Packaged equipment instrumentation & controls
    • SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation)
    • ASME Code 31.1 Power Code
  • Strong background in engineering deliverables development (specs, drawings, narratives, logic documentation)
  • Experience supporting project engineering, design reviews, and technical documentation workflows

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with EPC contractors or OEMs on major power-island scopes
  • Familiarity with DCS integration (high-level understanding only; no PLC programming required)
  • Field engineering or commissioning support experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or progress toward licensure

Soft Skills
  • Strong communication and technical writing abilities
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation discipline
  • Comfortable working in a project-driven environment with deadlines and deliverable milestones
