About the Role

We are seeking an entrepreneurial, driven, and growth-minded Inland Marine Underwriter to join our team and build a profitable book of business from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity for a hard-working underwriting professional who thrives in an autonomous environment and wants to scale a book dynamically. In this role, you will have complete ownership over your territory, leveraging your technical expertise to underwrite complex risks while actively executing market-facing strategies to drive production. You will focus heavily on core specialties-specifically Builders Risk and Contractors Equipment.

What You Will Do

  • Build from Scratch: Take full ownership of originating, underwriting, and growing a brand-new Inland Marine book of business from $0 to a high-performing portfolio.
  • Underwrite with Precision: Evaluate, price, and bind risks within your authority, focusing deeply on Builders Risk and Contractors Equipment, with the flexibility to intelligently underwrite up to 100% of property exposures when required.
  • Cultivate Relationships: Actively market to and develop relationships with production sources; while an established book of wholesale broker connections is highly ideal, you will be expected to relentlessly hustle to establish new partnerships if needed.
  • Operate Entrepreneurially: Act as the internal CEO of your book, collaborating with leadership to refine appetite, respond to market trends, and deploy our cutting-edge technology platform for maximum efficiency.

About you

  • A strong drive and desire to win together as a high-performing team

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial Inland Marine underwriting experience.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Proven track record and deep technical expertise in Builders Risk and Contractors Equipment lines.
  • Mindset: An entrepreneurial spirit with a strong work ethic, comfortable with ambiguity, and motivated by the challenge of building a book from scratch.
  • Distribution: Existing relationships with wholesale brokers are a major plus, but a proven ability to hunt and build a submission pipeline from the ground up is required.
  • Competency in Builders Risk and Contractors Equipment coverage - AAIS experience appreciated

  • Unlimited PTO and fully paid sick leave
  • Autonomy, purpose, and the chance to shape something from the ground up
