Description

In this role, you'll design, deploy, secure, and maintain the IT and network infrastructure our organization runs on-from custom LAN and VPN configurations to containerized services to hardened, secure workstations. Because we're building largely from scratch in a security-sensitive environment, you'll make foundational architecture decisions early and own them as we scale. We're looking for someone with strong experience across computer networks, operating systems, and cybersecurity who's comfortable with ambiguity and motivated to build and maintain robust systems to support our growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate a team of infrastructure engineers to deliver and maintain the organization's core infrastructure.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop infrastructure engineers as the team grows.
  • Plan, design, and deploy complex networks including custom LAN and VPN configurations.
  • Deploy and monitor various services to be used by employees and associates. (requires intimate knowledge of containerization)
  • Build custom operating system images and workstation configurations within the network to ensure practical security while maintaining efficient workflows.
  • Ensure high availability by maintaining backup systems and recovery procedures.
  • Generate and maintain robust, accurate documentation of all systems and configurations.
  • Ensure support for connectivity and availability problems.
  • Collaborate with developers, infrastructure engineers, and other non-technical team members to support a high efficiency, secure workflow.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to provide services to partners
Qualifications
Required skills
  • At least 8 years of personal or professional Linux systems administration experience
  • At least 2 years of experience leading an infrastructure team.
  • A relevant bachelors degree
  • Deep understanding of computer network concepts:
    • TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, DNS, VPN, SSL/TLS, Routing, DHCP, OSI model, Firewalls
  • Hands-on experience with containerization/virtualization platforms
  • Understanding of the Linux operating system:
    • How kernel modules, filesystems, networking work, etc...
  • Linux system administration experience
    • Scripting, user management, networking
Nice-to-have experience
  • Experience hiring or interviewing engineers
  • Incident response or on-call ownership
  • CI/CD Infrastructure experience
  • LXC, Docker, Podman
  • Libvirt, Proxmox (or any virtualization platform)
  • Administering small, custom, or airgapped networks
  • Homelab experience
  • Cybersecurity competitions (CCDC, CPTC, CyberForce, CTF, etc...)
  • Experience in custom or highly-regulated IT environments, such as HIPAA, FERPA, FedRAMP, IL6, or JWICS
  • Current or past U.S. government security clearance
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range: $205k-$375k/annum (including a $25k DC living incentive) set according to title and role family.
  • In addition to salary:
    • Relocation support of $5k-$10k depending on whether you're moving domestically or internationally
    • Full medical, dental and vision cover, effective from your first day
    • HSA available
    • Unlimited paid time off. We ask everyone to take at least 20 days a year, and would encourage more
    • Stipends for training, wellness and home-office set-up
